Yes, the Toona family is more similar to Mahogany than Western Red Cedar which is a conifer. Spanish Cedar is also in the Mahogany family so that's why is it may appear similar. I have used it regularly as neck material in the past but often the timber available isn't wide enough for tops and even if it is, is too soft. This top came from a very large tree that was old forest grown, naturally brought down in a storm. It was significantly stiffer and wide enough so I decided to use it for this guitar. Tonally, it is really even across the entire range with a warm deep low end and crystal clear highs. I love it!
