Sealed gear Gotoh 510 minis are my favorite tuners, and I’ve replaced open gear tuners with them more than once. That includes open gear 510’s and Gotoh Kluson-style tuners; the sealed gear 510’s are just more precise and accurate. When you swap out the stock metal buttons with wooden or plastic aftermarket buttons, they’re almost as lightweight as open gears.
But the Schertler gears are very precise, which is why I just put a set on my new Eastman J-45 copy. If the Schertler tuners you got are as accurate as mine are, I think you’ll be very happy with them.
