Hi all
Our bass player's AKG DB1 pickup plug died just before a gig this week. The 3 pin XLR jack turned out to have a printed circuit inside which had failed solder joints. I think 15 years of Hong Kong humidity may have been a contributing factor.
I think I can re-solder, but am wondering if a better, more robust way forward is to solder on a 1/4" jack and use an external pre-amp/DI box. I'm pretty sure our bass player doesn't want to scramble for sound again like we had to on saturday.
The pickup features are
here and the spec sheet is

I'm not sure what the purpose of the electronics inside the XLR jack are, I assume specific EQ for the pickup (which could be emulated with a pre-amp eq)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
