I do both -- I originally bought my Silver Creek(s) as beaters. But I find that the Cargo is a better beater. And it's a better travel guitar. And I don't think twice about leaving it in the car. Heck, I can even play it in the car due to its small size and short scale.
I still enjoy my Silver Creek beaters, though. "Both" is a good solution.
