*UPDATE* CA GX nut removal…

*Update in #4 below* Okay, I’m going to ask my question in a different way than I did in my previous post…Has anyone removed the nut from a Peavey made Composite Acoustics GX guitar?? I tried to remove mine to shift it over a bit to the bass side for easier thumb fretting, but even with heating it up a bit it wouldn’t budge when trying to break it free. I’m beginning to think it was glued at the factory with epoxy.
Anyone? :)

I haven't. I'm wondering what methods you've tried. While removing a nut on one of my (wood) guitars, the usual way of heating and tapping from the side didn't work well. Wedging a thin exacto blade under the front (headstock side) did the trick.

If you haven't yet, you might also ask in the Build/Repair forum.

Hi KevinH, I just did my usual way by first scoring around the nut with a small exacto knife to separate any finish from the nut. Then I hold a little block of wood against the fretboard side of the nut and tap it with a small hammer. When that didn’t break it loose, I heated the nut with a hairdryer because I couldn’t find my heat gun and tapped it the same way, but nope. I think there must be epoxy involved and I don’t want to crack or chip the nut. I’ll probably post this question in the Build/Repair section as you suggest.

Well, I just found the answer to my question in my original post here. The nuts were glued in with epoxy. I called Peavey and talked with the boss who is one of the old timers there and he said Locktite epoxy was used. So much for me removing it…bummer. I still like the guitar enough to keep it even though I’d prefer the 6th string a bit closer to the edge for easier thumb fretting.

Bummer. You could probably saw it out, carefully. Or, how about filling the existing slots and recutting them?

Well that's dumb. You can definitely remove it, just with a saw and file instead of a neat tap. It's an easy DIY job if you have a few tools, or a quick job for any competent luthier.
