Thanks for head’s up. Nice gentleman, great musician.

Do you know if he recorded it with the new Taran Martin Simpson model???

M Sarad 09-02-2019 10:34 AM

I can’t tell. The guitar he plays on some of the tunes has a narrower headstock than a Sobell with the same overall shape.

I have the album. It's REALLY good, except for the song "Neo", which seems to be not up to the quality of the rest of the songs on the album. What a good guitarist though. He never fails to impress.

He could be using a Taran guitsr. There is a thread on the custom forum where Taran Guitars in the UK posted over their latest improvements to their guitar construction and how martin Simpson is using one of their guitars to record.

Yes, for sure, that is why I asked. Looking at the guitar though in the YouTube video I don't think that's a Taran. He usually uses a Laskin style bevel and a t on the headstock although he may have changed that for Martin. I was wondering if maybe on the credits for the album it may have said.

Hi guys

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Martin used an old Martin D-28 that once belonged to Jackson C Frank to record his new album.
Maybe it only features on some tracks. There is a nice story in one of the guitar magazines possibly from July(?) which explained how he came by it and who refurbished it.

Keep on truckin'
Slim

I think you're probably right, the time frame probably doesn't work out for him to have already recorded and released an album with a guitar just made a few months ago.

M Sarad 09-02-2019 12:26 PM

Martin is great on many different instruments.

I’m a big Martin Simpson fan and am looking forward to hearing this. I pre-ordered it and it should come this week.

Best,
Jayne

Having just recently “discovered” Mr. Simpson, I’m very much looking forward to a concert this fall. Hopefully, I’ll get this album signed !

It's a Sobell in the video clip.

Slim Zooms 09-02-2019 03:06 PM

I agree 100% that's a Sobell in the clip. Might even be his signature model guitar.

Wolfram 09-02-2019 03:08 PM

Yes, that's one of Martin's Sobells in the video. I'm also enjoying Rooted!

Martin uses a range of guitars on his albums, and I believe he did use his new Taran on Rooted too.

Cheers,
David
