I'm loving the firewood. It looks great with the black limba

Nice simple but elegant rosette guys. So, what is “fire wood” or was this rescued from your stack of BTU sticks?

Nailed it Tim. It’s off a log of spalted oak that was supposed to be turned to cinder during our recent snowfall. But a luthier with a big heart saved it for something better.

Now if I can convince Steve to make firewood buttons...

Getting ready to close this box. Got to make some progress this week before our next student comes next week.

Very pretty! A question, if I may: it looks like you have veneered/reinforced the cutaway side from the head block to just below the waist? Is that correct? Thanks, Dave

nacluth 03-22-2021 06:58 PM

Thanks Dave. Yes I reinforced the cutaway area of the side with maple veneer. We thin the cutaway portion to about 1/16” to make the bending process easier. The veneer beefs up the region to keep any potential cracks from forming.

Great idea! Thanks for sharing.

One of the next coming down the pike: an Adi/Sapele dread with Leopardwood accents.

Your student must be a lucky fella, and totally stoked!

Well, we’re totally stoked to have him!

Nice work you guys. The leopard wood is cool. Great work all around.

I think I have some of the Black Limba in my pile somewhere. I haven't tried it yet. Very beautiful wood. Love Wenge too.

I hope I can catch up with Steve and Ryan soon.

nacluth 03-24-2021 12:26 PM

Thanks John. Hope to see you in October!

Here’s just a random shelf in the shop.

You too, John, thanks amigo. Will you be coming to Woodstock this year? Hopefully it will actually occur, and we can catch up! And yes, Black Limba is a fine timber. If you like mahogany, you’ll enjoy working with BL.
Thanks again guys,

Steve
