How to strum to create this effect?

Hi. I know this isn't a real guitar, but would anyone here have any ideas you could strum a real guitar to get a similar effect as in this track? Thanks. :)

Partial strumming

For example use your index finger to downstroke and upstroke (back and forth) across just the first string. When you can do that fairly
accurately you will pretty much have it. If you wish you could add in using the second finger and strumming back and forth on another
string(s). Of course the other part is hitting the lower strings with the thumb.

Or same idea if you happen to be using a flatpick.

Hey, do you know of any videos showing anyone doing partial strumming? I would learn it best by seeing it done. Thanks.
