Some optimistic builds for Woodstock and BIG

I have a feeling Woodstock is on this year. I haven’t heard much but I went to their website and I am listed as one of the contributing luthiers for 2021 so fingers crossed here we go. And now B.I.G. Is on as well. An excellent end to this lockdown.

First build is a Greybeard out of Bog Oak, a tree that was felled about 3200 BC and was preserved in a Bog (hence the name). The wood is dense and mineral filled and dark. I made a Tribal rosette to decorate the soundhole. Pretty sure that early man in the boggy parts of England were tribal. The top is bear claw Cedar.

The woods with rosette

Inlayed into the top.

Love that rosette! Perfect for those woods, which are fabulous looking to me. Don't let Paul or Steve talk you into blinging this one up too much: this needs to be primal - not classic.

Thanks Stan. I’m glad you used the word Primal. It gives me direction and will help me resist the nefarious influences of Paul and Steve.

The back.
It will have fiddleback mahogany purfling lines and blackwood binding. Simple.
Maybe even Primal?

With a little naphtha to show color and figure in the mahogany purfling line

Loving this one already, John!

Tribal and primal both seem like the perfect direction to take...

Thank you kindly Nemoman. What about some scar tattoos and or piercings. Maybe just piercings, like 6 small ones in the top and a large one on the side. I’m going to stop there.

LOL--And let's not forget the one large piercing already in that beautiful cedar top!

Nefarious???

Nefarious, me? I may occasionally ask for a bit extra... hahaha

John, Don't forget I want some of that Super Duper Bearclaw Cedar for my next one!

This will be fun to watch, and even better to play for someone!!!

I like the rosette!

Thanks Paul. Why not consider a return to BIG. It would be fun to finally meet up.

Yes indeed and the reason I was GOING to stop, and now having lost all restraint will mention, is that there will also going to be a butt piercing.

That purfling looks electric! I mean that in a good way - like your primal tribe is conjuring up a thunderstorm. What is the date for Woodstock again?

October 22-24

This guitar will be at B.I.G. As well. Which GASP is over a month earlier

Lovin the malachite bits in the tribal rosette. Nice mix of blacks and browns and the Fiddleback pops. The Bog Oak back and sides has also very nice figure and medullary silking. Very nice!

What features are going to be incorporated in this guitar John? Or is that a secret?

Thanks Han

Features? An arm bevel, florentine cutaway, sound port, Alessi tuners. Maybe a k and k. Floating fingerboard extensions and an adjustable neck.
