First open mic in ages

Celebrating hard tonight. Found out about an open mic in a local cafe (we are traveling in our RV). I've not done an actual physical / in person open mic since March last year thanks to covid. Was a great cafe, awesome music vibe, fun fun fun. Good thing I didn't forget how to perform in public in front of a mic!!!!

good news! must have felt great to do that. Many of us are missing that and just jamming with bandmates badly.

I'm wondering, did you provide your own mic? We are looking forward to open mics starting up again maybe sometime this summer. But even then we would likely make sure to use our own mics! In the meantime, I'll continue to run my bi-weekly virtual open mics!!

I didn't have to provide my own mic, here in New South Wales Australia, covid is pretty much under control. Had a small (by world standards) outbreak just before Xmas. Now we've gone for nearly 2 weeks with no locally acquired cases.

I did my first open mic EVER a few weeks ago.

Talk about intimidation. I'm quite a bit better without having to deal with being on stage in front of people.

Good stuff! I remember my first one very well. I learned heaps from it. Have done over 75 of them now and they do get easier. Battled with nerves quite badly for a while in the middle. Last night no real nerves at all. Keep at it!

Thanks . . . so only 70 more to go?

I really fell apart on one where I had to strum it. But I can do it quite well at home.

This is one I just finished . . . at least I think I'm finished. If it disappears, it probably means I wasn't really done!

I also just bought a 12.9" Ipad Pro and an Air Turn Manos holder (already have a mic stand I can use) . . I think that'll make a BIG difference . . . I like being able to try out new ones without having to play them HUNDREDS of times first to get them completely down.

One of the best pieces of advice given to me by a music club member when I first started playing was to ditch the song sheets and learn the songs from memory. After I memorized the first couple of songs, I realized it's a lot easier memorizing than I thought it would be. And the songs flow so much better when you play them from memory.
