last thursday, i was flew out to San Francisco and was able to visit the Somogyi Shop where Jason is working. I met him around 4:30pm and didn't end up leaving for my hotel until past 10pm. We did break for dinner so we wouldn't be so famished.
First of all, let me tell you that when I first met Jason on New Years, I was very impressed. Upon my visit this time around, I was even more impressed. As stated before, I feel as though Jason gets me and my music. He is a top notch builder and an incredible person. We spent a lot of time talking about guitars and the way he approaches building. Here is Jason in one of the rooms as we were talking about guitars: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran031.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran033.jpg I was also able to get a shot of the Andamento that Jason built under Somogyi: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran042.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran038.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran050.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran040.jpg what a case! http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran049.jpg and the humor and cheesiness: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran052.jpg |
the shop had many rooms and we did take time to continue talking about his build technique and the things he would to to build the guitar for the tone I am after:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran028.jpg He showed me a bunch of things he was working on including Michael Watts' guitar: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran025.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran026.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran027.jpg showed me some killer koa and two other Andamento's he's working on: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran022.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran016.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran013.jpg |
Mike McKee has a build that Jason just finished up and I was there to see the finishing touches on such a wonderful guitar!
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran326.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran333.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran335.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran339.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran329.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73...sanfran341.jpg will continue this story in a bit. it does get better! :) |
