Thoughts on the LR Baggs M-80?

Been considering a sound hole pickup and am wondering if anyone has had any experience with the M-80. Any input is appreciated...
Thanks!

I think they are quite good. I use it in passive mode.
The switch that changes the pickup from active to passive
Is on the bottom. It can’t be accessed without removing the pickup.
It’s only fault really. But I think they sound great.

For awhile it was my favorite pickup. I moved to the M80 from an M1A. I always used it in active mode and always used with an EQ pedal with it and cut a little 200Hz. It gave me a bit more body touch sensitivity than I like. I use a mag/mic style pickup now which I prefer.

It is a good pickup. I have it in an 814 which also has K&K pm installed. I don't use the M80 much but when I want some percussive sounds, it is great. I would also look at the Black Angel pickup. It is closest to my Sunrise pickup and sounds very good as well.
Happy hunting

I have used them for a couple years now and have found them to be great into an amp-especially if you have some EQ control. For me they’ve been more finicky through a PA system and mixing board. I had to add an EQ pedal to my board and really take down the high treble frequencies to cut out some of the inherent brightness (harshness) -especially in a band setting. This is after taking the B and E-string poles out and lowering the rest as flat as they will go. I like the pickup (have three), but they’re definitely not plug-and-play in my experience. I’m pretty committed now, but I wish I would have experimented more initially.

Jim,

Here's a thread I did demonstrating the M80...I've used it for years in my D18 because I did not want to alter it with a UST or SBT. Tho I'm mostly a MIJ Tak guy, I do use the D18/M80 for certain gig applications and recording. I think it's a fine pickup for what I do, tho it's not for everyone, but check this thread and vid out: https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=517255

As others have said, I think the M80 is an very good pickup. I used it for quite a while in a J-45 and I was always pleased with the results. I've moved on to pickups that allow for blending between mics and some other pickup (mic and piezo in my J-15 and mic and magnetic soundhole in the D-18), but I have fond memories of playing with the M80. Very feedback-resistant, too.
