NGD - My 1st Larrivee (OM-40R)

Well, my first Larrivee (OM-40R) arrived in the mail today and it is truly as advertised! The looks and sound are special and as the strings (John Pearse 600L) settle a bit I expect it will only get better. Feel of neck is a little different but we need to adjust to all things new. THANKS to John at Shoreline for a great customer experience! Pics are attached. The other guitar in the pics is my 1989 Taylor 810 which I've owned since the early 90's. Was looking for a smaller body guitar with good sound projection (to compliment my Taylor) and I found it in this fine instrument. Love DR Sunbeams (use 11's for playability) on the Taylor and plan on experimenting with them on the Larrivee down the road. My initial sense is that the Pearse 12's on the Larrivee feel a lot like the 11's on my Taylor 810, so I plan on trying DR Sunbeams 12's on the Larrivee after I give the Pearse a chance. Any thoughts on strings? Life is good and got even better today! :):guitar:

Congrats on a fine guitar. Pearse PBs are a good place to start. I like Elixir Nano PBs as well.

Great guitar. Good for you.Enjoy it.
I envy you. This is a guitar I was quite serious about getting. A health situation derailed me from doing so.

Make great music!

Larrivee makes fantastic guitars. And the 40 series is something extra special. I own two Larrivee 40's dreads.
John Pearse strings are great and sound excellent on Larrivee's. But Dr. Sunbeams usually sound especially great on Rosewoods. It does on my rosewood. Dr. Sunbeams do not sound as good as JP's on my Walnut. However..I would recommend you trying the .13 to .56 on the Dr.
Larrivee's are built for .13teens. That is what they expect that guitar to be used with. Which means the maximum tone value. And Dr. Sunbeams...feel like they are less tension because they are round core. So that should not be a problem.

That guitar will give you all you want to hear and more with .11's and it will play like butter. Plenty of volume, too. I would never put .13's on my OM-40/mahogany.

You have bought a beautiful guitar. Enjoy it often. Congrats.
