Bose L1 Compact in This Space
 

Gang, I played at an Open Mic tonight in a new space, a neat little bar near my home. The guy hosting it had a Fender setup, not bad at all for the job when I was out in the audience.

Would an L1 Compact work in in that space? It's a narrow bar, in kind of a railroad flat, with room for maybe 10 stools behind from where I was sitting to take this photo. On warm nights there are windows to the left that open up to a little patio, it was buttoned up tonight.

Good for the audience? Good for the performer? Like I say the sound with the Fender setup was fine in front but it was unsurprisingly muddy when I was singing, and I heard overtones on a lot of my chords but who knows what the customers heard. As you can see, the bar continues sort of behind the "stage," but it's a cul de sac back there and not a target really for the music.

In case you're wondering nope that's not me, unlike this poor guy I have a head attached to my body. Needless to say he played only instrumentals.

I played a room like that a few years back. The Bose L1 compact would be prefect for that.

I have an L1C - you would be able to hear yourself better, and the Bose would give good coverage without blasting those in front. It wouldn't even be working hard.

Yes an L1 C would cover it nicely, but so would a smaller system like an S1, Loudbox Mini or EAE/Sunburst Gear amp.

Thanks gang. I was pretty sure the L1 C could handle it spl wise, and mainly was wondering about planting it right up against that wall where the Fender thing is, with my head that close to it. I *think* I could hear things better than what I experienced last night (pretty vague, no disrespect to the venue) as indicated by Captain Jim and I sure hope so--that's the kind of venue, maybe a little bigger, that I am most likely to be playing when I start gigging more on my own here in NoVa. In Pittsburgh it's mainly using OPE (Other People's Equipment lol).

The S1 occurred to me but, despite not having heard it, I'll boldly say I'm not sure. It's amazing how loud the crowd noise got in there, I guess because of close quarters and flat hard surfaces. I'm sure you could tell the S1 is producing sound but I expect the Compact would be more relaxed cutting through.

The Compact should do really well... bouncy surfaces all around , prolly won't need much reverb. You will be able to hear yourself more comfortably.

That's a recipe for loud chatter for sure!

I gig a Bose L1C all the time in spaces just that tight. It is the single best personal monitoring can get without feedback issues ..and you know exactly what the crowd is hearing too. The L1C is my single favorite solution for near field amps in small area's. Not a doubt in my mind it will be superior to the Fender system.
