What are you listening to right now?
This is a start of a thread just for fun, if one is a classical or jazz & folk music listener, to compare notes.
Right now I’m listening to a jazz vinyl LP _Grant Green: Feelin’ The Spirit_ from c.1962 I’ll try to post more info about this record in a further post. How about you? |
As someone not overly fond of rats, I've been growing increasingly alarmed while listening to Lightnin' Hopkins in the company of short-haired women.

I picked up the Willie Dixon Chess Box set recently and I've kept it in heavy rotation... 36 of his songs preformed by him, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and a bunch of other blues legends... I love old school blues and this stuff just nails it... |
Cat Stevens greatest hits

ANYTHING Billy Strings! That dude is AMAZING!!

I've been listening to the brand new Tommy Emmanuel/John Knowles duet record for the past couple of days.
In the car, Billy Joel's channel is back on Sirius/XM this month. Lots of monologues from him between the songs. I recently read his bio. |
At this moment to 98.1 classical.

Forgot to mention, string section playing Beattles Strawberry Fields...

Lots of nice posts so far.
Grant Green’s first album as leader, ‘Grant’s First Stand’ from c.1961 is one of the very best jazz albums I’ve heard in my limited collection. Now listening to The Bill Evans Trio: Explorations |
Kevin Hart on Netflix. Hilarious.

It snowed last night. I'm listening to silence.

Currently listening to both albums by Big Thief, plus the solo album by Adrianne Lenker, which (like any great music) just keep delivering the more I listen to them. Also loving the Lush album by Snail Mail, which is an incredibly good debut from one so young.
Oh, and Hayley Heynderickx (I think I got that right?!), who is a wonderful talent, as is Max Garcia Conover and the album they made together is sublime. |
Blind Guardian. Just discovered them a couple of months ago and they're a fantastic power metal band out of Germany.

A large indoor water fountain. :)

Caravan - For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night - was the last thing I listened to, yesterday evening.
I’ll probably go on a King Crimson binge over the next few days, to celebrate their 50th anniversary. |
Art of the KOTO the music of Japan, played by Kimio Eto.
Who knew you could get so much musical sound from a log. As you can see, I like to get outside the dotted lines. |
Too much to list. Breaking out of habits, trying new things, AKA maximizing our Apple Music subscription.
I've been avoiding things I've bought or selected, listening to new and curated playlists, and then adding stuff I like to a "Revisit" playlist. My exception to trying new stuff is a playlist on my Apple Watch that's got items with ideal tempo for my running. I find I don't overdo the running if I jog to one song and then walk or hike until another good for running song comes up. Basically shake it up - new music and more exercise that's not on a bike. |

Ok, back to:
The Bill Evans Trio: Explorations Bill Evans, piano Scott La Faro, bass Paul Motian, drums Recorded Feb 2, 1961 Later in that year La Faro would die in a tragic car accident, after a most famous recording I’ll talk about later that should be in everyone’s jazz collection. These guys were living in the fast lane with Evans’ advanced harmonic language brought to the fore from his background in classical music. |
“One of Evans’s distinctive harmonic traits is excluding the root in his chords, leaving this work to the bassist, played on another beat of the measure, or just left implied. ‘If I am going to be sitting here playing roots, fifths and full voicings, the Bass is relegated to a time machine.’”
On one of the most distinguished partnerships between bass and piano in jazz, La Faro and Evans. |
Right now, the Panthers-Canucks hockey game. Before that, the Tedeschi Trucks Band.
