Caravan - For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night - was the last thing I listened to, yesterday evening.
I’ll probably go on a King Crimson binge over the next few days, to celebrate their 50th anniversary. |
Art of the KOTO the music of Japan, played by Kimio Eto.
Who knew you could get so much musical sound from a log. As you can see, I like to get outside the dotted lines. |
Too much to list. Breaking out of habits, trying new things, AKA maximizing our Apple Music subscription.
I've been avoiding things I've bought or selected, listening to new and curated playlists, and then adding stuff I like to a "Revisit" playlist. My exception to trying new stuff is a playlist on my Apple Watch that's got items with ideal tempo for my running. I find I don't overdo the running if I jog to one song and then walk or hike until another good for running song comes up. Basically shake it up - new music and more exercise that's not on a bike. |

Ok, back to:
The Bill Evans Trio: Explorations Bill Evans, piano Scott La Faro, bass Paul Motian, drums Recorded Feb 2, 1961 Later in that year La Faro would die in a tragic car accident, after a most famous recording I’ll talk about later that should be in everyone’s jazz collection. These guys were living in the fast lane with Evans’ advanced harmonic language brought to the fore from his background in classical music. |
“One of Evans’s distinctive harmonic traits is excluding the root in his chords, leaving this work to the bassist, played on another beat of the measure, or just left implied. ‘If I am going to be sitting here playing roots, fifths and full voicings, the Bass is relegated to a time machine.’”
On one of the most distinguished partnerships between bass and piano in jazz, La Faro and Evans. |
Right now, the Panthers-Canucks hockey game. Before that, the Tedeschi Trucks Band.
