Installing K and K mini through over drilled end pin hole

OK, next question: if instead of installing an oversized end pin, if I install a standard pick up jack (which I think are all 1/2 inch?) does it matter if the endpin hole is overdrilled if I use a very thin washer on top of a felt washer to protect the finish? Or do I somehow make the cylinder of the jack that is inside the guitar fatter to fill up the hole (shrink wrap, 100 MPH tape, etc.)
Thanks
Scott

It's kinda difficult to unravel exactly what you are asking.

Have you already drilled the hole for the K&K. ?

Just FTR, the correct size hole for the jack socket is 12mm ... this translates to 15/32", near as makes no difference.

Yes it does scott, when the jack has the ability to side move it will come loose and mar the finish of the guitar and make the hole bigger.

The jack is an anchor point for your strap, so every time you pick your guitar up and throw the strap over your shoulder its going to side load the input jack, eventually it will work loose and even possibly allow the guitar to fall during a performace, yes i have had guitars in for that issue.

Perfect world, we plug with fresh wood and redrill, imperfect world, tape packing is okayish.

This is what happens when a strap button fails, this was pre repair

The previous owner drilled it out to 5/8's for some reason. Trying to work out how to install the 4/8 inch jack into a 5/8 inch hole.

Hardware store and some pipe/hose maybe?

I think a 1/2” by 5/8” nylon bushing is something that’s readily available. I think they’re used on lawnmower wheels.

One on the inside and one on the outside might do the job.

I vote for shrink wrap on the jack barrel before installation.

You can always sand it and modify it to make a perfect fit. Get a couple and go for it.
