Martin Retro Strings
Just put a set of Martin 12`s Retro`s on my Campellone, nice sound,I like the 12`s better than the 13`s from D Addario...

Try the MM13 set next string change - should drive the top a little harder and get some more "wood" into your tone; BTW great stuff, those Monels - I have them on several guitars right now (more to come)...

Steve: who makes the MM`s?
|
Steve. I see they are Martins, I`ll give a try next change...Thanks Brian SINY..

I own a carved archtop with a floating pickup. I have always used D'Addario flatwound chromes.
How well will the Retro/monels work utilizing the pickup? Thanks for your replies. |
The Monels are ferromagnetic, they will work with a pickup.

Interesting. I have them on my D35 and like them, wouldn't have thought to try them on my archtops. I've only used D'A Chrome flatwounds on them.

I'd say it certainly depends on the guitar/ what sound you want. Flats came into play as the popular jazz string in the 50's, before that, guys were using nickel wounds or strings like the Monels. A lot of jazz players today are also getting away from the flats... Me personally, it helps me rationalize having more than one archtop, as I like both sounds:) |

"Why do you need so many guitars?" "I need them for all the different strings I use!" |
