Wren Guitar Works: Bearclaw/Ziricote/Snakewood

Hi again everyone! I haven't been taking the time to document things recently, but this one is a bit special for me, so I'll try to pull out all the stops. I've been looking forward to using this wood for some time now, so let's see how it turns out!

For a start, I resawed this bearclaw Sitka from a small billet that Maurice Roy (Roy Tonewoods) chose for me when I was ramping up to build my contribution to the Group of Seven Guitar Project. I only got two tops from the small billet, and this is one of them. I love the look, but I love the tap tone response and deflection properties and light weight even more!

The Ziricote back and sides were also short listed for the G7 Project and it was literally a coin toss decision ... very dramatic grain pattern to say the least, and a nice deep chocolate color tone.

After consultations with my customer, we decided on Snakewood trim for this one, so I'll start to break out the binding materials etc from a board I've had seasoning for years.

There are a few more custom aspects to this build ... so I hope you stay tuned!

WOW!, beautiful woods there. Can't wait to see this one come together.

Wow, you can see how great these woods are just by looking, but to think they were in the running for the Group of Seven project, they indeed must be upper echelon!

Incredible woods, David--I'll be following along!

That is some outrageously cool ziricote.
