Playing along with music
 

Any thoughts on what components I would need to play along with music in a headset. First off I need the Electric/Acoustic guitar. After that what components do I need to play and hear myself play in a headset along with music.

Keep all this in mind. I'm airline pilot and spend many a night in hotels. The reason I thought of this is to play quitely and at the sametime keep expanding my playing.

Any thoughts on what I need and also which Guitar?

I have a ROCK BUG that works great for that. There are other options, but the ROCK BUG is bullet proof and will easily handle travel abuses. It has an internal 9 volt battery, or can be used with an inexpensive power supply. Most any guitar with electronics should work, as long as it meets your playing needs and is the right size for your travels. Hope this helps.

Seems to me that the Yamaha Silent Guitar is specifically designed for the sort of use you're envisioning...

I use a VOX AmPlug and an iPhone with my electric guitar to do this. For travel I have been thinking of getting one of these

I probably would have already bought a Traveler if they weren't made in China or a Miranda if they weren't so expensive ...

Also, if you are as bad of a player as I am it helps to slow down the song (without changing pitch) with the iPhone app "Music Trainer"

I was a purser/flight-director for a major airline, for many years. On layovers, I used to bring a light-weight Yamaha electric guitar, and practiced with a compact device called the RockMan X100. I'd throw both into a light-weight gig-bag, along with a small set of headphones, and I could wail 'til the cows came home. :D
