That wood looks amazing! Why are you letting Jim keep some by doing a cutaway :-). Have him send you the scrap for a coaster if he doesn't use it in the trim.

Hi Kent, what exactly is spectacular about this piece? Personally I hope it sounds better than it looks.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the beauty?

Assuming you are serious (I am not really sure how your "wink" was intended)
this is actually an issue that has been discussed on this forum quite a bit.

I won't hi-jack the thread by opening up the issue of this type of "cut", but there are some who see it as beautiful, and other more traditional types see it as poor quality wood for a guitar.

Everyone has their perspective on quarter sawn and flat sawn. I looked at well over 100 options and this was exactly the figured with spider web that I was looking for. I honestly think that this is the most attractive Brazilian, but others prefer the straight grained dark stuff. That other straight stuff is just for my liking. So I guess that is the benefit of doing a build, you get to build to your preference. If you look at many of the Brazilian older Martins, many have this figuring and those guitars are still spectacular.

One of the nicest backs I have ever seen is the one on this guitar built by Jim Olson...and is behind my selection of this set of Brazilian:

Anyway, I am really excited for this dread.

Keith,
congratulations and looking forward to your thread. I also spotted the Brazilian neck planks at the bottom of the stack behind your back wood on the second photo :)
