NGD/1000th Post

My new Gibson LesPaul Studio Plus is being delivered tomorrow from my friends at Sweetwater. It is a 7lbs14oz weight relieved body with a special edition paint job called Bourbon Burst over a uniquely vertical grained plain Jane maple cap. The neck is this new style of offset carve that is fuller on top and thinner on bottom, but still the 60’s era depth with a 12” radius. The pictures are of the guitar I am receiving. All in all, a very nice retirement gift to myself. I can’t wait!

I really like their bourbon burst.

Really nice guitar! Enjoy that bad boy.

Thanks Growler. I’m really looking forward to it.

Use it well, often, and LOUD... :guitar:

That's gorgeous... lovely burst! Happy NGD, retirement and 1000th post. What a pretty guitar... hope it sounds as good as it looks. :)

Thank you very much Steve. I’ve moved to northwestern NJ since our last chat, but the offer still holds, when you are at Raritan Bay Guitar let’s meet and break bread, talk about Brooklyn and guitars.

Thank you Kerbie. They’ve gotten great reviews, these new Studios. Gibson is really trying to save themselves, I feel.

Thank you Kev. I really fell for this Bourbon Burst paint job with the ultra plain Jane maple top! How’s that killer wet/dry rig you assembled treating you?

Really like that color, congrats. I have two Les Pauls; one that I love, and one that I don't - yours looks like one to love. Enjoy!

I get what you are saying Ghostnote. As much as I enjoyed hotrodding this 2001 Studio shown below, I ultimately gave it to my son because I just didn’t like playing it. I am hoping for a different outcome with this 60’s slim and asymmetrical neck carve they are using on the new model.

Yes that finish is spectacular IMO

The wet/dry I love it so far BUT.
Honestly I have barely played it more than a few 1/2 hour sessions , as we have been really busy all summer doing a bunch of projects to wrap up our Arena/Barn construction project before the snow starts to fly. And I just finished up mowing aprox. 60-80 acres of sage brush on our property for fire mitigation.

Looking forward to really digging in and doing some recording in a few weeks

Yes, you sound quite busy. I can’t wait to see your finished Arena/Barn project. All the best,
frank d.

Nice looking Lester, there. It appears from the pix that the mahogany body is a single slab of wood, rather than 2 or 3 laminated. I think that's uncommon in the Studio line.

That’s exactly my thoughts Max. I’ve blown it up to a 24” screen and can’t find a joint or seam! I’ll report back when I see the actual guitar. Do you think they would waste all that time and energy slapping a slab slice veneer to cover multiple pieces? I would hope not.

jaan 09-22-2020 07:36 PM

I love that fingerboard!

FrankHudson 09-22-2020 07:51 PM

I agree with the thread, nice looking guitar.

My Les Paul is one of one of those low-cost rat-rod semi-gloss black models, but it has one of Gibson's asymmetrical neck carves. These things are matter of taste, but I like the feel of it.
