It would make a great read.

You could call it 'Rubbing Shoulders'.

I'm no judge of the market, but if well written there's a book I'd read too. From the various times Silly has mentioned this part of his life I'm intrigued. I suspect there's a long-gone social milieu to be fleshed out: what was the audience like? What were their expectations? Which bands met them, which didn't (and I'll bet eventual fame doesn't match up in this regard). What were the working conditions/logistics like?

If there are tidbits, like what exactly were Mitch Mitchell's drum tips to another young drummer at the time, that could be good too, but I don't even need the "what later famous and semi-famous people said or did that I observed" to make the book worthwhile.

Of course writing a book length manuscript takes tremendous effort, and there are "opportunity costs" to consider. Silly should do with his life what he wants. but I've appreciated the small bits he's dropped on the AGP.

Is this the real life?
Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide
No escape from reality
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go
A little high, little low
Anyway the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me, to me
Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away
Mama, oh oh
Didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters
Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, oh oh (anyway the wind blows)
I don't want to die
Sometimes wish I'd never been born at all
I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, Scaramouch will you do the Fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning very very frightening me
Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, figaro, magnifico
I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He's just a poor boy from a poor family
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come easy go will you let me go
Bismillah, no we will not let you go, let him go
Bismillah, we will not let you go, let him go
Bismillah, we will not let you go, let me go
(Will not let you go) let me go (never, never let you go) let me go (never let me go)
Oh oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me for me for me
So you think you can stop me and spit in my eye
So you think you can love me and leave me to die
Oh baby can't do this to me baby
Just gotta get out just gotta get right outta here
Oh oh oh yeah, oh oh yeah
Nothing really matters
Anyone can see
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters to me
Anyway the wind blows

Compared to John Barleycorn Must Die , it is amateurish .

Two different universes - one high literature, the other "Mama, I just killed a man..."

Hmm. Doesn't ring any bells.

Axis ; Bold As Love .
A nearly endless list , I could just go on and on .
The only rock opera's that I care about are Tommy and Jesus Christ Superstar .
Once Queen got to their third album , they had been transformed into misguided pseudo operatic wannabes .
What a sad loss because their first two albums kicked butt .

Misguided, pseudo, and operatic - that was out of their reach? I think they got there.

MinorKey 01-21-2019 05:34 PM

Ah no it'll never get old for me, and I can't wait to see the film.

Tony Burns 01-21-2019 09:02 PM

I actually like them more now than i did back then -But the eighties and nineties typically were not my fortay -
I recently bought one of their concert DVDS - and saw the movie .( i wouldnt bother buying the dvd of that movie)
The movie did not impress me half as much as the concert in Wembley stadium
-i like Fridays concert way better than Saturdays -it had more life and the sound was better.
I had to put their greatest hits on my MP3 player-

It falls into the overplayed on the radio category for me. It was nice for a while, but I got tired of hearing it.

Same goes for a host of other songs like; Heart's "Barracuda".

Wasn't John Barleycorn by Trad? Sure, he wrote a lot of good songs, but have you ever met him in person? I hear he has this air of mystery about him, but really you don't want to know him.

MinorKey 10-27-2019 05:46 PM

I still love it and always will

I wonder if he's related to Unknown?
