Your Favorite BEATLES song, and Why? You only get one!
EDITED: Okay, I've decided to change this just slightly. If you want, I'm gonna allow people to choose TWO (2) songs, if you prefer. Why? Because it's my thread and I can't decide.
Okay, so one early song, up to Revolver (but not including Revolver), and, if you like, one late song, which will start from the first notes of "Taxman," will include the entire Revolver album, and everything that followed till their breakup. Here are Mine: Early: "She Loves You." PERFECT pop song, made perfect when George Martin moved the chorus to the beginning of the song. Late: "The Long & Winding Road." I'm sure I'm wrong, but this always felt like a farewell song from Paul to John. The stripped-down version on the Anthology album is so simple and stunning. I can't get enough of the Fab Four, so here's yet another Beatles thread. If you were stranded on a desert island with a boombox / CD player, and a genie appeared and said you could choose one, and only ONE, Beatles song to listen to until you were rescued, which song would it be? And why? In other words, what is your favorite Beatles song of all time, and why does it rank so highly with you? I'll come back in later with mine. Still thinkin'..... And I do apologize for too many Beatles threads. We need a 12-Step Program. Looking forward to your answers, Scott Memmer |

...Ok, the OP has modified the limit to two songs. My second favorite is "Because." You already know why. :D |
The Beatles were a two-headed monster and no song better illustrates that than "A Day In The Life".
|
"In My Life"
It's introspective and haunting. |
I am the Walrus.
Dunno why, I've just always loved it. |
A Day In The Life. To me this is a great song right up to the last chord, which goes on forever.

Ticket to Ride.
As a pop song within the context of the sonic environment of top 40 radio of the day, it was head and shoulders above everything else. |
Hey Jude
Great vocals and live video with audience singing backup Nah nah nah nah's.
|
"Let It Be". I like the piano, guitar and organ. The way the song came about, in a dream. It seemed to be the cap on the long and mighty run. A bit of "things will be ok", as the band was breaking up.

"Something"
Simply because it grabs my attention every time I hear it. And I hear new stuff in there almost all the time. * * * Favorite song to play is different, "Here Comes the Sun", just because it's fun every time. (Not just "Because".) |
A Day In The Life. It pretty much epitomized how they were greater than the sum of the parts.

My favorite Beatles song is most everybody else's favorite Beatles song, and that - of course - is "Helter Skelter."
Okay, I'm lying. I read somewhere that NOBODY'S favorite Beatles song is "Helter Skelter," so naturally I had to claim that one. As for choosing only one favorite Beatles song, it's so difficult because they had so many distinct eras. I guess for me it's kind of a toss up between "Hard Day's Night" and "Help!", because they were functioning as such a tight unit back then. Having listened to them more or less constantly for more than fifty years now, I still learn something new almost every time I hear their recordings. whm |
It changes pretty regularly.
Right now? Gotta be “Don’t Let Me Down”. |
I get the chills every time I hear "A Day in the Life". Masterpiece.
