Everly Brothers "Bye Bye Love" cover

This is my cover of the great Everly Brothers song, "Bye Bye Love" recorded and published in 1957. I also sang the harmony part and used brushes on a cajon to add a little percussion.

The music of the song is so happy, all major chords, I tend to forget that it's a song about heart break. I just don't hear any heart break in the song. I was nine years old when this song came out on the radio -- one of my favorites of all time! :)

The guitar is my Gibson Advanced Jumbo Luthier's Choice from 2002, adi over BRW. I am using medium light Martin PB SP strings, so the AJ has a little extra kick to it.

My harmony came out sounding more like Simon & Garfunkel than the Everly Brothers. I just don't have that characteristic twang in my voice that the Everly Brothers had. Also, I am 70 years old and they were just youngsters when they recorded this, so their voices sound so young and agile on their original recording, which I really appreciate hearing. I love the energy that they put into this song. :)

Thanks for listening! :)

Glen,

Thanks for another Everly Bros. song. This one came out my Sophomore year of H.S.. Loved them from the start. Cathy's Clown was released just before I joined the the Navy and was a hit all through boot camp. Great job as always.

Hi Sower!

Thanks so much for your comments! interesting that you were in high school! I imagine this music would have been even more significant for you than it was for me since music we knew in high school seems to be so important in our memories.

I loved the song, "Cathy's Clown," especially since I had a girl friend named Cathy who tended to fit that song very well! :D

I am very pleased that you enjoyed this! :)

Hi David!

Thanks very much for watching and commenting! It is a fun song to play and the chords are all pretty straightforward, nothing too fancy, though some of the chord changes can be kind of fast.

This version from ultimateguitar.com is pretty close to what I used: https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab..._chords_188059

I'm so glad you thought this came out okay! :)

Great! I love it, the percussive thing with the cajon is cool, and the Gibson sounds great!

Thank you Johan!

I'm so glad to know that you like how this came out. I'm also pleased that you liked the effect of the cajon in the mix; I did, too. And, I agree that this Gibson AJ sounded good on this song. It really has a great, punchy sound when strummed.

Thanks so much for your comments! :)

Fantastic, as I’ve come to expect from you, Glenn!

One of my favorites to do live. Seems to always get a good reaction.

Hi Marty!

Thank you for watching and for your comments here! I remember that this is one of your go-to songs, and in fact, that was a catalyst for my pulling this song out of my past and taking a shot at it again! I'm glad I did!

Thanks so much for your kind remarks here! :)

Hi Jake,

Thanks so much for your comments and your kind words! Yes, for some reason I couldn't help myself from a little laugh and smile there at the end. It is a fun song to do!

Thanks again Jake!

Great tune and well done, Glenn! Love the brushes on the cajon. I always enjoyed that tune... second side of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," if I remember correctly. Great job.

Thanks Kerbie!

I'm so glad you thought this came out okay -- even the use of the cajon! As a drummer, I know you would be sensitive to that. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment here; it's much appreciated!
