NGD - Emerald Amicus

Like always, I shouldn't be perusing around the AGF's Classifieds. I also ESPECIALLY shouldn't be doing it at work, but I'm my own boss, so nobody was getting hurt. :) I was having a bad morning. A plan that I had been cultivating for weeks fell through at the last minute, and I felt momentarily defeated. Plus I wasn't finished with my coffee. So I took to the good old AGF to help sooth my woes. There it was, a virtually brand new Amicus for sale. An intriguing eye catching moment, and for me, an unheard of notification of a used Amicus for sale. It was a Woody too, plus the seller had posted a great asking price. Drunk from my state of mind at the time, I jumped at the bait and made an offer. We struck a deal, and the waiting game was on. Lucky for me, my morning at work also changed for the better in a somewhat unexpected, but serendipitous turn of events.

The seller was great and everything went easily. I received it last Monday, but barely had time to pluck on it all week. Luckily last night and even a tiny bit this morning I got to put it through it's paces. It is so fun to play, and I'm so happy that I was able to add a guitar of this caliber to my arsenal. I'm looking forward to tinkering more with it and playing around with tunings and such. This morning I took it outside to snap some photos for my archive. Enjoy...

Congrats nootis on your beautiful Amicus…and welcome to the Emerald fold

Congrats! That is a beauty, and does look like fun to play.

Mush like a D-28 or a D-28, I'll likely never be able to afford a high end carbon fiber guitar. But man, I WANT one.

Gratz to you, nootis. Play it & love it for all of us who can't.

Wow! That is lovely! I haven't had the pleasure of playing an Amicus, but they sure look and sound cool in the videos I've seen. Nice job on your photos, too!

Stunning! Love that headstock.

Retail therapy, I think we've all been there. Congrats and enjoy!

That’s a beauty. I’m looking forward to hearing more about it as you get to play it some more - if you care to share, that is :)

Thanks for all the nice comments. Yes, I lucked out.

As for Emerald guitars in general, I've had an electric classical X10 for over a year now. I bought it here on the AGF, special ordered by Evanb (I think that was his handle), a popular fella over in the Carbon Fiber section. Turns out he also lives within 20 minutes of me. Go figure. Anyhow, I'm in love with the special qualities that that guitar brings to the table, and there is this reverb the guitar emits that is so pleasing and cool and I wonder if it's because of the fact that it has nylon strings or is it because it's made of carbon fiber? So in the back of my mind, I have been pining for a steel stringed Emerald. It didn't cross my mind that I would end up with an Amicus however, but I'm glad I did.

I also feel humbled and blessed that I'm able to own these beautiful instruments and write about them here.

The reverb question still somewhat lingers because the Amicus is so highly tuned and most of the reverb (at least to my ears) comes from the bottom end. Makes me wonder what a X20 or X30 would sound like....
