Baritone Ukulele Size Tenor Guitar
 

I was reading another article that got me interested again in something I have been thinking about for awhile. Is there such an instrument as a Tenor Guitar the size of or slightly larger than a Baritone Ukulele? Maybe the same body size as a baritone with a slightly longer scale.

Our band's vocalist has the earlier rosewood version, that she keeps in "Chicago"/baritone uke DGBE tuning - just slightly bigger than a baritone uke, sweet tone that blends well with other instruments (she also uses it with the community uke ensemble), and definitely an attention-getter at our shows...

I bought a Pono NUI which has a very lovely well defined koa voice.

I consider it a double baritone, and is loud enough to set the pace in uke ensembles.

It is not loud enough to play with an acoustic guitar.

À steel string tenor guitar is good with acoustic guitars. And the four strings and smaller size are much easier to handle than full size guitars.

The one Steven mentioned above looks nice and shounds like a good deal. I am going to keep looking for awhile while I convience my wife (mother/boss) that we need to buy one. LOL I fell in love with the sound of a Tenor after I came to Ukulele due to a damaged neck, left arm, and hand. I am recovering, however, I do not think I will ever again be able to play 6 string and that does not matter since I like the Tenor Sound. I especially like the shorter scale of the Tenor. It is almost as short as my Kala Baritone.

I have a large baritone (nui), tuned DGBE with nylon strings. It was made by Kerry Bannister in Lynnwood Wa.

The string spacing is perfect for both strum and finger picking.

it is a beautiful, loud, all solid wood instrument that can hold it's own with instruments, many thousands of dollars more excensive.

Do you want four strings like a tenor guitar?

Do you want steel strings, or nylon?

Several already mentioned a Pono Nui.

If you want something in between guitar and uke size that is six string, check out a "Kiku" by either John S. Kinnard or Jay Lichty. These are both top-notch custom luthiers, so these will be priced accordingly.

I'm actually hoping to find the opposite--a tenor guitar-sized nylon string baritone ukulele.

I know Pono and some other makers have jumbo baritones, but I couldn't justify the expenditure, even though I'm certain they are fine instruments.

I'm also very interested in a full sized steel string tenor guitar, but with a wider fingerboard for fingerpicking.
