2 Qustions...
 

What would you recommend for a sound hole mag pick up with a condenser mic combo? Seymour Duncan SA 6 w mic, Fishman Rare Earth Blend or a Dimarzio Black Angel... or something completely different?

And second ..
What is good quality mic for recording acoustic guitar... probably under or around $100

I've used the Fishman with excellent results, but decided I did not like having so much stuff in the sound hole while I played. I don't think either the K&K or MiSi Trio I use today are as good, but I did not own them at the same time and the amount of mic mix is sometimes venue limited...

I really like my Skysonic FS-1 which also has a built in wireless transmitter as well. They also have a wired model with three sensors: magnetic, mic and body.

I've never heard of the sky sonic brand. Are you happy with it?
I see the FS1 has a phase switch which is one of the things I liked about the Dimarzio Black Angel. But the Bluetooth wireless thing is kinda cool. Like the iSolo? I didn't see the bluetooth receiver... I'll go back and look for that.

I'm also looking at the iSolo Stage wireless pickup and the Schertler AG6 with S mic. Lots of good choices

The receiver isn’t Bluetooth. It’s a regular wireless type receiver. It’s battery powered and fits on the end of a plug like the Xvive receiver.

I just ordered another Skysonic FS-1. I don’t have a guitar to put it in. I just ordered it as a spare (because it is inexpensive and takes a while to arrive from China) and because it is an excellent pickup to quickly put in an acoustic you don’t want to modify.

Ok, I just found something that I don’t like on this pickup. On my Elite Acoustics D6-8, there are both Hi-Z instrument and TRS line 1/4” input jacks. The wireless receiver sounds great plugged into either input but not so the hardwired output. The endpin audio (via the LR Baggs M80 endpin cable assembly) sounds fine through the Hi-Z input but absolutely terrible through the line input. Terrible audio, uneven frequency response causing some frequencies to feed back even as others were barely there, plus a whining and sputtering noise: completely unusable. Go back to the hi impedance input and everything is fine again.

This must be why they no longer include the cable or advertise a hardware audio out as a feature.

Anyway, the hardware output sounds fine plugged into a guitar amp or a directbox, but I wouldn’t plug it into a mixer directly even in an emergency.

The hardware out also works well with my Tonewood Amp, which I really enjoy playing through at home.

$100 and good quality mic don't go in the same sentence. Now if you want one mic that will do everything and survive a bomb blast, get a Shure SM 57, but it is not what I'd call good if you want a detailed sound.

There are a lot of inexpensive mics that are OK, but for capturing an acoustic guitar I'd want something like a Shure SM 81.

Now if you want to record a sub $500 guitar, I'd get a cheaper condenser from an established brand. Nothing truly bad is made by the likes of AKG. I do not mean to come off harsh, I buy plenty of things that do the job, like an impact drill I'll use a few times. I go in a hardware store and ask for something that will do the job. In the world of mics where the "good" ones can be thousands, you are shopping the low end. But it is equally useless to run one through a $100 pre amp.

^^^^^^this! I've had my SM 57 for going on 4 decades (so didn't need any where near a C note for it back in the day) and for what it is works great. it's not a very elegant or 'hot' mic in terms of signal, but it's bullet proof and works every time!

I have on occasion heard pretty sound with a miked guitar, but most of the time it’s muddy, low volume, and at the edge of feedback the whole time the person is playing.
