All This Gretsch Chatter...
3 Attachment(s)
Made me want to post pics of my trio. I’ve come to love that “Great Gretsch Sound”...obviously. :D
I won’t bore you with the details of how I got here after 36 years of playing. But, I will say it’s been a fun and educational (sometimes painfully so) journey to this point. I am smitten by the Gretsch trio. I will say I’ve not had the privilege of playing any of the newer models. All of mine are when rosewood boards and BT/Hi-Lo’s were offered (up until a year or so ago I believe). I did sell my 2019 Airline Silver G5230-T Center-Block with quite a few mods to grab the Rosa Red G5620. I loved my black one so much I wanted a duplicate. Steve has me thinking someday I’ll add the 3pu 5622 to my 2 pu 5622. But for now...I’m cool. Let’s see your Gretsch “stable”! Forgive my low quality pics. I’m not a photographer by any means. |
Not set up for pics of my own, but I'll download these representative examples:
'64 Double Anniversary 6117 (Brooklyn) - my first "good" guitar and still in my collection (this one's a '62 but otherwise identical): http://www.vintagemandolin.com/image...0563/front.jpg '16 G5622T-CB Electromatic (MIK) - my road warrior for the last three years, most likely for the foreseeable future, and I'll probably score another as backup (yeah, they are that good): https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-dks6...=2&imbypass=on '13 G6136DC White Falcon (MIJ Professional Series) - Wanted one since 1963 and finally got (perhaps the last NOS example in existence) last year: https://images.reverb.com/image/uplo...kum2nc89sw.jpg |
What a great group! From vintage to the modern you’ve got it covered. Thanks for sharing the pictures. You’ve certainly put together a very nice collection of sweet Gretsch guitars.
Also, thank you for the educational threads/post/responses regarding Gretsch guitars. As I’ve said before, I consider you the resident AGF expert. |

that is gorgeous Steve.
I have two bucket lists guitars, An SJ200 (picked on up on 2016) and, one of these... it's still on the list!!! Someday............. |
Tony - what beautiful guitars! There have been lots of Gretsch chatter here over the past 6 months and virtually no threads in the 10 years prior. Great to add the diversity here on the AGF Electric sub forum.
What amp are you using? |

At home I’m using a new Blues Junior Lacquered Tweed with Jensen speaker. I run a TS-9, Earthquaker Devices Dispatch Master, TC Spark Mini Boost, and occasionally an MXR analog chorus. On my fly/live rig I’m using the AMAZING Vox MV50 clean head. Class D power, 50 watts at 4 ohm. VERY tube amp like (due to the Nutube Technology), built in attenuator, line out. Another unusual option for this price point is the ability to run a cab AND a line out to a mixer simultaneously. Just a great little head. This is paired to an MXR EQ, Archer Ikon (gold), MXR Analog Chorus, MXR Carbon Copy, Boss RV-6 (used specifically for “shimmer” mode), Electro Harmonix Holy Grail. At home I’ve been toying with the idea of a Vox AC15 but not sure as I want to A/B one with my BJ. Honestly the Vox would have to blow me away to move the BJ out. This Lacquered Tweed version is really, really great. |
Yep, I've always been smitten with Gretsch semi's also. (A 6120 in burnt orange with a "G" brand was probably my first guitar love).

I just joined the Gretsch gang about a month ago and I'm really happy with my newest guitar, a 1967 Double Anniversary.

I caved and have a Vox AC4 1x12 incoming. Thought it might make a great addition to the Lacquered BJ Tweed. Hoping it pairs well. I’m thinking it should be a good fit. Different flavor...and all that. Hoping to have it tomorrow. I certainly don't need another 15 watter. And although the 10 gets great reviews I’ve never cared much for 10” speakers. The AC10 may be an exception to my typical preferences. But, the AC4 1x12 seemed like a good choice for my needs/wants. |

loud for me to get it's tone on recording without an attenuator! Here it is with another nice amp a Victoria Regal II... https://i.imgur.com/O8R1nCJ.jpg?1 Here's another one of my Gretsches although long gone. It was one of my favorite guitars but I wanted one with trem so I sold it and bought the blue one. I should have just saved more money and kept it as the ceramic Filtertrons in this one sounded GREAT... https://i.imgur.com/HSiX59U.jpg?1 |
