New build- Fred Tellier Maple & Engelmann Parlor

2012, Montréal guitar show : I play a «*small jumbo*» from Fred Tellier (fetellier member here). 2014, Freds builds me one, Maple/Engelmann. Fabulous instrument.

2018, Québec guitar show: I play a parlor guitar from Fred. 2020, guess what ?

Fred has started to collect and work the woods that will become a Maple/ Engelmann parlor. Whereas my SJ maple was quilted, this time the guitar will have curly maple B/S. All binding, armrest and scooped cutaway in ebony. I love the contrast of a «black & white» guitar.

Other specs : Curly maple neck laminated with ebony and plain maple. Ebony bridge, fingerboard and peghead.
1.8’ nut width. Fred will work out string spacing to accommodate my chubby fingers.
Sound port. The sound port on the parlor makes a huge difference to me when compared with my SJ.

So here is a first picture, with lots more to come...

I love Freds Guitars so much.. I found myself playing his Baritone displayed all weekend at La Conner 2019.. Great guy, and his tone is deep and Bass filled.
Ask Tony Mcmanus!

It will be a real treat for you to have two guitars by the same builder and with similar woods but different body size.

I will enjoy watching this come together!

My parlor build will be on pause for the next week since Fred will be sanding and buffing two other instruments, a cittern and a 00 guitar. He sent some pics of the work done thus far.

Well it was supposed to be a week off on my parlor build, but I guess confinement gave Fred some more time to work on my guitar. Arm rest and scooped cutaway work.

Pretty maple. I am anxious to see his technique for “doing” the scoop. Thanks for the view

The parlor has been on pause for some time, since Fred was working the final steps of some other builds. While waiting for work to restart, probably on the top, here are some pics of the progress thus far...

I can’t wait for Fred to announce that Mr. postman brought the black MOP for the rosette 🙂

Congratulations on the new commission! I have one of Fred's SJ's from 2011 in Lutz/Bubinga and it's spectacular in appearance and tone.

Looking forward to seeing this one progress!

As a point of interest this is the guitar that Jean-Francois J-F C tried at the Montreal guitar show that lead to his commissioning his Quilt Maple SJ.

If I may ask what is the wood you are using for the scoop support?

Yes your guitar is the one that got me into commissioning a guitar from Fred. I know it sounded fantastic in 2012. Should sound fantastic today !!!

I use basswood for inner core for all of my scoop and armrest/rib rest bevels, used mahogany on my 1st couple rib rests as I had some available but basswood is easier to obtain, and carve/shape.
