Yard work, visiting neighbors, joy rides for the grand kids; we even loaded PA gear on it to go play a neighborhood gig. Now, if I could only get a mower deck on it . . .

Yes we use our Polaris Ranger (high performance golf cart if you will :D) every day,, here is a little video I made about going to the barn

More informative data is found at: https://www.iihs.org/ratings/driver-...make-and-model

Death rate is per million registered vehicle years filtered by size and model type, as well as multi car, single car, and rollover crashes.

As expected, you're more likely to die in a "mini" car. Worst is 141 in a Ford Fiesta. Average for all vehicles is 36. Few performance cars show in tables.

I'm not a "car guy," it is all about function for me.

For the past 20 years I have driven Honda Pilots, 2 of them, starting the first year they were available. It's basically a "mom car" according to my family. I'd like something smaller for better mileage, but I needed to haul lots of kids and now grand kids and a lot of stuff. And I have to sit up high.

They have been very reliable. Current version is about 10 years old with 140k miles and I have no plans to get rid of it unless something major goes. My wife (a Volvo snob) thinks it is a wreck, but so am I, and this is not the time to be buying a car unless you have to!

I just could never seem to get this one in gear though.

WOW, You moved BACK to CA?

You'd have to buy me much more than a Mercedes to get me back there.

After 3.5 years I went back to visit family. I was very disappointed to say the least.

The bride drives an older Toyota Matrix, I drive a four year old Toyota Tacoma. Her commute is only a km across town, mine only passes the fridge, so gas isn't an issue.

After looking at, and trying, over 10 brands/models, and after being utterly unimpressed by the likes of Lexus, MB, BMW etc, wife and I have opted for a 2023 Volvo XC60 Hybrid (plugin). It feels and suits us both just right. Downside is it'll take 8+ months to get it!

68 Rambler? Just kidding. We bought a 2015 Prius Hybrid and love it. Not much of a snow car but at an average of 54mpg, we'll take it.

What do you drive?

While we have owned some SUVs over the years, I’m much more of a wagon/estate kind of guy…along with the minivan, for which we’re on our third AWD Toyota Sienna.

This is the ultimate sports-wagon, of course…

For informational purposes, the photos below do not show the Sienna. 🤣

I drive a DS scooter with my hair cut neat,
I wear my war time coat in the wind and sleet.

My car history:

Part 1: the domestic years (1988-1997)
Chevy Malibu: terrible, engine failure <90k miles
Chrysler Cordoba: even worse, engine failure <80k miles
Pontiac Grand Am: my first decent car, engine failure <100k miles
(see a theme?)
Saturn SL2: my first new car; super basic, head-on collision, totaled

Part 2: Mitsubishi years (1997-2015)
Drove three Mitsubishi Galant cars (wife had two more); first one replaced my totaled Saturn, but traded in with my wife's failing Dodge for two leased Galant cars; at the end of the lease, the dealer made a great offer to buy two new ones, which we kept for 13+ years. They were great cars... nice features, reliable, low maintenance

Part 3: Recent years (2015-present)
Purchased two used Mercedes-Benz SUVs; the GL450 was particularly problematic (repairs/maintenance cost more than the monthly car payment), so I sold it before the air suspension failed ($10k+ to replace)
Traded for a used Lexus RX 350; super reliable, but fairly dated with features; got rear-ended and decided to trade it in after the body work was completed

All this leads me to my 2017 Acura MDX. I'm so happy with this SUV, which contains many of the best features from all my past vehicles. It's reliable, comfortable, has a 3rd row for extra storage, and has all the safety and creature comfort features. I plan to keep it until the wheels fall off, as long as nothing happens to it. My wife has a 2015 Acura TLX, which she got, when we traded in the MBs, and she loves her Acura too.

I'll never own domestic, European, or new vehicles again. No judgements... those just aren't for me, based on my personal experience.

2017 Subaru Outback

It’s my third Subaru. Actually, my second was only four years old and I usually drives cars till they die, but I had skimped on some upgrades when I bought it that I later regretted. So, when I got a great offer on a trade-in AND 0% interest, I jumped on it. It’s by far the nicest car I’ve ever had. And as of this month, it’s paid for!

A rusty old 1996 Chev Silverado 5.7L and a rusty ugly old 2001 Pontiac Montana. Newer vehicles aren't even a possibility, times aren't easy!

The car I drive when it's sunny out is my 1972 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce 2000. I've owned it since 2005. This car is ridiculously fun to drive. Always puts a smile on my face.
