What do you drive?
 

I got my first car after passing my test a year ago. It’s a Toyota Aygo. Due to some inheritance from my gran’s passing away I was able to afford one with five miles on the clock, I’ve now done just over 4000.

It’s not a powerful car but I love it. 73hp, 3 cylinders, 1 litre engine. Really economical, does over 50 miles to the gallon in practice and I can do a good 450 miles on a full tank without having to worry about running on fumes. Also cheap to insure, I was £650 for my first year for comprehensive insurance but had heard horror stories of £2000 - £3000 for certain car models.

I was a very nervous driver at first having passed my test at the relatively late age of 32 but I’m now starting to really enjoy driving except in very bad weather conditions.

My favourite feature is probably the Apple CarPlay. Great to be able to get maps on the central screen and I love being able to play albums by voice command through Spotify. I listened to John Prine’s The Tree of Forgiveness yesterday and found myself singing along. The reversing camera is great too.

I’m now in a job with good salary potential later on but I can’t see myself upgrading this car certainly not in the next five years. I wouldn’t like driving something bigger at the moment.

My daily driver is a cargo van. We do a lot of animal rescue so that made the most sense. I can't say it's a terribly sexy or fun car to drive but it is incredibly handy!

I'm on Honda number 17 (in 44 years of driving) There was on Acura in there too, but have never driven anything but a Honda product.

My current Accord has averaged 39.5 mpg over it's first 14k miles, so pretty darn good in that respect, but if Honda came out with something like your Toyota Foxo, I'd strongly consider it.....and definitely an EV like the one they are selling in Europe, but not here.

Way more smiles per mile than any 4 wheeler I've tried. Occasionally also far more terrifying.

my Dad owned a garage, so I'd been driving since I was nine, but "my" first car in 1966 (!) it was a '64 Ford Anglia 105e like this, but mine was a year older and a "basic" rather than a "deluxe" so no radio, drum brakes all round and no synchro on 1st gear. 997 c.c.


Then a Ford Cortina Mk1 (1300!), Cortina Mk2 (1600) - then an Escort sport, an Escort Exec, and then, surprisingly a VW Scirocco, BMW 320 (worst car I ever had!) the two (or three) Ford Scorpios (best cars I ever had) A Ford Mondeo, a Mercedes C class diesel (boring!) then two Honda Accord estates (very good) and now I'm on my second CRV - 2014.

I've probably missed something out.

We have a small fleet problem we're working at. A total of 4 - the kids' cars and our vehicles currently at home and an antique off site.

At the moment they have no need or space for them on college campuses or near. We hesitate to sell what are good low mileage vehicles because they will need them soon. I think we'll be paying for 6 months of storage.

My favorites among them are the van and performance AWD wagon.

My current daily driver is a 2001 Subaru Crosstrek Limited.

I’ve put 21000 miles on it in the 18 months I’ve owned it. I’m really pleased with it. It’s quiet, comfortable, economical (33-34mpg on a long run), and with its all-wheel drive, it’s very sure-footed in winter conditions.

Last week I drove my wife’s car on vacation - a 2018 Mazda CX-5. It’s a super vehicle too, but both she and I decided that we prefer the Subaru for a long trip.

I expect both these to keep us going for the foreseeable future - they’re paid for, and we’re retired, so a new vehicle is a serious consideration, particularly at today’s inflated prices.

Bought a one year old XC70 almost identical to this seven years ago. Needs a fairly big space to park it, but the best cruising car I have ever driven - perfect for 100+ miles return trips from late night concert finishes. It's my fourth Volvo in a row, but may be my last as the hybrid versions are prohibitively expensive. I will likely downsize for my next car anyway - but any car after a Volvo is going to be a downgrade in my book.

I bought a 2008 Honda Fit in late 2007. Bought it new, have only driven it about 75,000 miles, so I should be able to get another 15-20 years out of it, by which time I probably shouldn't be driving anymore. I don't drive much these days and just look at cars as a necessary evil. The Fit is my favorite car of any I've owned, which have included Hondas, Nissans, Toyotas, Ford vans, one old Saab, and a 68 VW Beetle. The VW was my first car, I spent $600 on it in 1978 - I've only owned a few guitars I've spent less than that on. IF I ever need to buy another car, I'm sure by the time I do it'll be some sort of electric vehicle.

I drive a 2021 Ford Ranger FX4. We also have a 2015 Ford Titanium Escape. I bought both of them new.

I like trucks and this one is serving me well.

Skoda Superb Estate. A total bloody Dad Wagon. With my stupid roofbox on top and everything (although the plug in hybrid engine does deliver 215 bhp or so...but it drives like a sofa). Bought new 2.5 hears ago when we suddenly needed to fit 3 child seats in the back...
