I am SO impatient to hear this Constellation #1. This is my new shape called "Small OM". I'll talk more about it, after her first appearance at the Salon International de Guitare de Québec International Guitar Show

I finished this guitar during a 15 days Masterclass, at Michel Pellerin's workshop. I did that to finally start to make my own finish myself, and definitely, this is one of the best experience & decision of my Life as Luthier.

Nut & saddle, are roughly made. The action is higher than the final setting, and the tension is on the strings (but slightly underpitched). It is time, to let this beauty sleep for a couple of days, and to finally set it as best as she deserved!

The amazing François Pelletier / Guitariste-Compositeur will play it live, the last day at the last showcase of the Salon on October, 3rd. It will be a sunday, definitely a funday!

She represent, all the hardwork & precious advices, I've had at Michel Pellerin's Finish Masterclass. Definitely, she's Gold to me!

Hey Daniel!

The headstock design is the same than my usual one, but it is less wide. The Constellation Libra Pattern is on it.

It won't be possible to play it at the show, because I want to avoid any scratch and it is impossible to judge a guitar in that noise... but you will be welcome at the workshop to play it as you want, in a quiet environement, with a good dram of fine Whisky ;)

Thanks my Friend! I definitely should bring one in Paris for you to give it a strum! :)

It would be nice if you would relay what defines a "small OM".

It is a crossover beetween my OO and OM Shapes, an "entre-deux" model.

The bracing of the guitar, is not an hybrid like I have on my OO model, because I hate to overbrace my instruments. So, I wanted to have a model who could have a small shape, but a pure X bracing... and here it is!

The body is deeper than a OO too, even deeper than an OM. We could say it is a deep body, but I've always made my guitars deeper than the usual

M Sarad 10-24-2019 10:07 PM

The Wenge is incredibly attractive.
I convinced Brondel to build me a guitar from Wenge.
He and I are glad it happened.

Can’t wait to hear it.

Wenge is my favourite wood and Ben certainly gets the most out of it. Definitely worth the splinter risk.

Fred, M Sarad:

Yes, wenge is such an incredible wood. In terms of aesthetic, and sonically speaking, this is insane. I've never had any splinter's issue, but I am very carefull. its biggest problem, is when you want to finish it. This is such a pain to fill all the pores, that's why it cost $$$ in option

BenjaminPaldacci 10-25-2019 02:01 PM

#FridayIsFunday... especially this one! The small OM is done, she is absolutely glorious! It's Time for a cosy week end with chocolate, and coffee!

I installed a Savarez 12/53 light Bronze set, and I am really happy about the result. It is very similar to Cremona Mondomusica 2017 days, when I installed a set on the first OO-12 I've made. Not disapointed, at all!

Pre-show days, always are very stressful for me... and since I've had to cancel The Sonore Festival, I want to be more than ready for "The Salon International de Guitare de Québec International Guitar Show"! I am 120% satisfied with the guitar. All the bets I've made, paid as best as they could be. Come to say "Hi" at my table if you are in the Quebec area!

Extraordinary work, as always, my friend. Thanks for sharing it with us.

But, I'm rather disappointed. I thought we'd agreed that you'd send any new models to me to play for a year before introducing the guitar to the public? Fortunately, you can remedy your failure by sending this beauty to me.

:)

BenjaminPaldacci 10-29-2019 04:22 AM

Small OM... a singular name, for a singular guitar

Some of you asked questions about this new shape, and I will try to ask about it. When I've designed this model, my goal was to have a different result in terms of sound & Playability, than the ones I've got with my OM and OO models. On the OO-12, I build an hybrid "X and Faned", to have a particular sound I really love. Very intimate, responsive, but with the best Headroom & projection I could have. It is inspired by the work of the amazing Jeff Traugott, Michael Bashkin & Stephen Strahm

One of the thing I hate on a guitar, is when it is overbraced. It really kill the instrument, and I definitely couldn't have a "pure" X Bracing on my small model. So, I tried to find a great alternative, and to build a model which would be the perfect crossover beetween OM & OO. Here are the specs which are changing for the small OM Model:

- 25.5'' fret scale: It is longer than my OM (25.34'') and OO (24.75''), to allow drop tuning to the musician. My guitars are sounding pretty great in DADGAD or exotic tuning, and I didn't want to lose that on this model. Better than that, I wanted to increase the possibilities about this point.

- 14 frets jointed: I offer only 1 version of each of my models. OM is jointed at the 14th fret, and OO at the 12th. It really fits in terms of "Identity" and I am staying in a kind of "tradition" with those choices... but I've always wanted to try a OO-14, without losing the qualities of the 12th version. The small OM is here, for me to do that.

- Dimensions: I've kept the OM specs on the Low end and body-length, but the upper-bout & waist, are similar to my OO Model. The depth of the body, is like an OM deep-body. So, this is like a OO under steroids.

- Fingerboard width: It depends of the desire of my customers, but my favorites specs are 45 mm at the nut and 55/60 mm at the 12th fret. It is very comfortable for fingerstyle, and I am building my guitars for this kind of music (but you could strum on it if you want, it is working pretty good). About my voicing, I am still keeping my philosophy: achieve the construction of a "responsive guitar" (Thanks to Ervin Somogyi).

- About the weight, and Tuning Machines: I generally tend to not like heavy guitars. It have nothing to do with the sound, because I've trie incredible guitars which were not lightweight... but in terms of comfort, and workability of the wood, I generally chose a wood which is light & stiff. Definitely not the heavy & floppy stuff. The first Small OM weight is under 2 kilos (4.41 lbs), and I've chosed small Gotoh 510 to increase this point.

- Hardcase: As I've previously said, I work EXCLUSIVELY with Main stage cases company now. Their case & communication are amazing. I am very picky about all the parameters of my guitarbuilding, from the wood to the people I am working with. As It would take weeks before to have my Personnalized Main stage case for this little beauty, I have chosed to go with @Hiscoxcasesltd to ship it, as you could see in this picture. I don't want to have any problems, and I prefer to pay a couple of $$$ to catch the best & Strong case possible, for my precious customers. Eddie's Guitars will receive the Main Stage case later, with a beautiful Caseadillo to protect it... and the Small OM will be safe, during the time before the delivery of those items.

If you have any other questions about this beautiful guitar, come to say Hi at the Salon International de Guitare de Québec International Guitar Show, and contact Matthew Chulka at Eddie's Guitars (or myself) for any informations.

So, this Small OM #15, Constellation Series, is called "The Libra". It basically is the first minutes of her life, and wow... she litterally growl.

When you build a big guitar, it is more natural for it to have projection & Headroom. It is harder to get, with a small guitar. In terms of sound, I am pretty happy because this guitar is in the lineage of my precedent instruments. It reminds me the OO-12 #6 I have built 3 years ago. I always want to have the perfect balance, in the sound of my guitars, followed by an "expension" of the headroom, when you play the note. This last point, is easilly noticeable on the high frequencies. It is the same thing when you reach the sweet spot, during the height adjustment of pickups, on an electric guitar.

I've put Bronze 12/53 Light Savarez on the instrument. I've always prefered Phosphore bronze on my guitars because Bronze is a little harsh (in terms of sound) on the high strings IMHO...

Thanks so much to François Pelletier / Guitariste-Compositeur, who fought the horrible weather to come at The Red House. On this video, you can hear a sweet improvisation from him... we kept the surprise for the songs you'll hear at the Salon International de Guitare de Québec International Guitar Show, on sunday at 4:50 pm! Be there, you won't regret it!

Well, Eddie's staff was blown away by it! :)

They didn't play any of my instruments before, they really took a bet. This is very unusual, and I can't thank them enough about their confidence. Seriously, I am really honored to be there, they are real guitar connoisseur!

Here are some pictures of the instruments, I took before to ship it to Eddie's. The light is much more intimist, ans the burst and much more brownish than reddish.
