I just did first open mic using newly installed K&K mini in my Collings, into a Red Eye preamp(about $175). It has a treble adjustment that cleans up any sharp sound, and also a boost if your playing w others and want leads to stand out. I used an XLR cord out of preamp directly into PA board and got amazing true acoustic sound. Easily cut thru mix , no feedback. Very happy with this set up if you're considering a passive, natural acoustic sound.

1 Attachment(s)
1.) For small cafe type rig: Sennheiser e945 vox & Martin D18/M80 both straight into either my Loudbox Artist (fav!) or Performer pending room size...it's all I need

Attachment 7890

;) HOWEVER :wild:

2.) ...for larger & outdoor rig: Martin 000-18e Retro/F1AP or (MIJ Tak KC70/Cooltube) into Line 6 wireless > Boss AD-2 > MXR Carbon Copy > Neunaber Seraphim > Loudbox Performer and if needed, either a tandem 2nd Performer, or a PreSonus Air 10 powered speaker... btw I rarley use the AD-2, only if I need additional anti-feedback notch filtering.

When playing plugged, I have: Instrument(s)>K&K Pure Mono P/ups>Source Audio 4-Channel Programmable EQ>Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble>Orchid Muting DI>XLR to PA. My TC Electronics PolyTune Mini tuner is spurred off the 'tuner' output of the Orchid.

Unplugged with PA: Instrument and voice into one ETL 'Louise' mic>PA

A couple of Taylor nylons (and a Kremona) plugged directly into my AER 60. That's it! Sometimes I'll use my Bose T1 if I need to really sculpt the sound.

Taylor 814ce ES2 -> ToneDexter -> MXR Reverb -> Boss Loop Station (with extra switch for stop/delete) -> Q\Strip EQ -> XLR or 1/4" out to QSC Speaker or PA.

OR... Directly into Fishman Loudbox Mini at Jams. Or into whatever setup is at an Open Mic. Or... LR Baggs Session DI -> FOH PA at church.

Good thread here.

I am thinking about getting a rig for solo acoustic/singing. Debating over an Alto Trouper 200W, or (1) Electro Voice ZLX 12", and mixer. Does anyone have any experience with either?

Thanks!

Rob

ZLX12 is a lot more speaker than the trouper. It will be useable in a much wider variety of settings.

Yamaha factory system through a Nady MGT-16 wireless system to a Fishman SA220.

Enjoying this thread! I know acoustics are supposed to be “unplugged” but i enjoy the acoustic rig rundowns. Id love to see some demos in whatever is the appropriate forum category

Taylor 415 with Fishman undersaddle >> Boss TU-3 tuner >> Fishman Aura Spectrum DI >> various PA-ish permutations.

Occasionally the Collings D1A runs through the same chain.

+1. Finding the Acoustimax has been a huge plus for me. It's by far the best preamp I have tried (and I have tried many). It sounds wonderful going into either my Carvin AG200 or into a PA (where it really excels).

My pickups include the K&K Pure Mini, the DiMarzio Passive Angel, the L.R. Baggs StagePro, and the Taylor ES2.

Oh, and both of my active systems sound great on their own going into the Carvin, so my "easy peasy" rig is an active pickup going into the Carvin with no preamp - Sounds great!

In all honesty, the Carvin has a 'Hi-Z' switch designed for passive acoustic pickups, and with it engaged, even the K&K and the Angel sound pretty darn good through the Carvin on their own. So, when playing through the Carvin, if I use the Acoustimax, it's mostly for EQ. Through a PA, however, I consider the Acoustimax a must.

Oh, forgot to mention my mic...For vox and harmonica I use a Heil PR22UT dynamic mic that I absolutely love.

Martin DC-16RGTE with Fishman Prefix Pro plugged into Carvin AG100D amp.
Or, guitar through Radial PZ-Deluxe into PA.
For vocals, various Sennheiser mics.

Currently my weekly gig setup is either a Takamine LTD with a CT4BII pickup or a D18 with a K&K > Pedal board > A&H Zed mixer > Behringer Eurolive sub with a Yamaha DBR10 or DBR12 on top. For vocals, Blue Encore 300 condenser mic > mixer.

Pedal board's current configuration, Volume pedal > Zoom A3 > Digitech Chorus > HOF Reverb > Xotic Compression > Digitech JamMan Solo Looper.

I have lots of other gear, it pretty much all fits within the same scheme, it just lets me play either larger or smaller venues.

Acoustic Guitar with K&K into Tonedexter, Shure dynamic mike and Tonedextered-guitar into TC Helicon Play Acoustic (Body Rez zeroed out), mike and guitar separately out of the Play Acoustic into Mackie 802 mixer, mixer main out to Fishman SA220 Aux input. Reverb, boost, tuner, and voice eq/fx supplied by the Play Acoustic. External pedal controls Play Acoustic.

Sounds more complicated than it is—three boxes, really—Tonedexter, Play Acoustic, small mixer. I could lose the mixer but I like it for separate guitar/voice levels close at hand (and eq if I need it).

Blackbird 12x24 pedalboard
Guitar and second mic into Tonebone PZ-PRE
Tuner out to PolyTune
Main out to Harmony G-XT
To Sub N Up
To Rang 3
Out to 1/4 jack on the side of the pedalboard from which I run a line to my mixer guitar in.

Main Mic into G-XT and out via right angle XLR to jack on the side of the pedalboard from which I run a line to my mixer vocal in .

Also have USB Bright Switch running with a CIOKS DC10 (to charge ipad running OnSong, old Iphone 3 running a white digital clock, and a Donner bluetooth page turner.

Having the second mic into the PZ-PRE allows me to loop/stack guitar and vocal at the same time in the style of Ed Sheeran. Running out to a Bose L1M2 and T1 Tonematch or QSC Touchmix 8 as needed.
