Any famous guitarist use small guitars as their main?
I can't think of any famous guitarist that use "small guitars" as their main....kinda curious if there are any...
or if their small guitar "handicaps" their ability to play big... |
Sting is always playing some small antique looking guitar.

What do you consider small? For years Dave Matthews played an X14 sized Taylor, as do many others. Do you consider that small? |
Define "small".
Marty Robbins played a 5-18 on stage, Norman Blake/Nancy Blake have done many of their recordings with 00 size, Peter Rowan mostly uses a 000, Bill Broonzy used a 000, Blind Blake used a 00, Nick Drake used a Guild M-20, Arty McGlynn used 000, Stefan Grossman often used OM, John Doyle uses a 00. Many others I can't think of at the moment. |
like parlors, or 00 sizes.....
around there. I would love to see someone rock on a small guitar...and see if they can play big! |
robert johnson? I am not sure how you define "main" but Marcus Mumford alternates between a Martin dread and an OM-21. And if you search some shows/songs, the 21 doesn't seem to limit him from playing big in the slightest.

Joan Baez played an 0-45 Martin throughout her early and mid career, on stage and in recordings. Gorgeous sounding and gorgeous to look at.
Willie Nelson has played a fairly standard (not sure of the "0" designation, 00 maybe?) sized classical guitar...Martin for the past few decades. Ditto Paul (Noel) Stookey of PPM, though on stage in the trio his nylon string git was often augmented by Peter Yarrow's rather large Martin D-28S. Cheers, Dirk |

Since 000 is essentially the same as OM, and 00 is only slightly smaller (.7 in narrower body lower bout), one man's 00 could be another's OM. John Carlini plays a Martin OM with a 1 3/4'' neck, Tommy E a Maton between 000 and 00 in body size. |

It's amazing to me that when your interests change, so does your radar. :)
I saw this TV episode re-run a short while ago, and of course was noticing the guitars being played, and especially the group that plays the song beginning at 2:15 in this youtube video link. I believe the lead singer is playing a parlor sized guitar in that clip. This is a fairly modern TV episode, simulating a live concert, but it demonstrates the point, that there are artists using smaller bodied guitars. :) |
Larry Pattis has been known to sport some small guitars.
Marty Robbins was the first name that came to mind. Bob Dylan and that girl he used to hang out with (majorly joking there!), Joan Baez, played some Martin 0's and 00's now and then. Lots of the old acoustic blues was done on small guitars. Ed |
