Congratulations Stan, so cool you got to do the shop visit and touch and listen to the wood!!! Oh, and hanging out with the boys was probably OK too.

Thanks, Tom - it is great fun hanging out, hearing funny stories about La Connor, picking their brains on various things. Not to mention playing some great guitars! I wanted to play that tiger Myrtle before it got away, and did, but it's bigger than I'm looking for so I didn't spend as much time with it as others. As a research trip it was a success: I know I want a sound port and a Manzer wedge, and we found lots of woods that are going to really make this guitar sparkle, in a quiet way. (Can something sparkle quietly? Maybe glow is a better word.)

Beam surreptitiously? Shine secretively? Glisten clandestinely?

It WAS great having you around, Stan. Thanks for making the trip over.
And this will be a real treat for us.

Now that is right pretty right there!

Stevied63 06-18-2018 03:43 PM

Gorgeous - you’ll want a nice wide rosette to take full advantage of that lovely wood!

BrunoBlack 06-18-2018 04:33 PM

Wow, that Bubinga is something special!

SJ VanSandt 06-19-2018 08:54 AM

Ryan, it seems like no matter how wide you make the rosette, you are going to lose the bulk of the curl. What if you switch those two pieces, left for right?

nacluth 06-19-2018 10:13 AM

Stan, industry is always getting in the way of inspiration. ;) Actually I already have it inlaid. (I’ll send you all the progress pics soon.) It’s not going to show up super well on pics, but you’ll still have curl and the wild curly bits you liked. Because of how small of a glance of the wood you see in the ring, trying to capture more of the broad curl is difficult in any arrangement. I think we got the best go the way we picked out when you were here.

Of course the final composition is going to be killer.

cigarfan 06-19-2018 10:24 AM

We would expect nothing less than killer! :)

It came out nice, Ryan. What you gonna do with the center part?

For some reason I've got Kinnaird fever.

TomB'sox 06-19-2018 06:49 PM

That came out lovely. I really like how the grain lines became vertical on the top and bottom while the curly bits on off on the sides!!! Perfect orientation I think.

June 21: For continuity’s sake, here’s the final rosette.

I think that qualifies as killer, Ryan. I know it slays me!
