Looking good, and enjoying your build!

Yep, that sounds accurate. Thanks for chiming in!

I've read before that "closing the box" is a milestone, which reveals hints of the final guitar. I am now at this stage, and I am quite happy with the results so far :)

Now that picture really made me happy when I first saw it. I am truly impressed by how silky and uniform the top looks. Also matches well with the sapwood and the red/gold rosette.

Talking about the rosette, I realize I have not posted a close up shot so far. Here you go.

And the back. Just some lovely quartersawn wood, with some hints of orange.

That's looking beautiful. How excited are you right now? I imagine it's off the charts

Vaillant75 06-07-2020 10:54 AM

I am aware my pictures are not of the highest quality and do not justice to Tom's incredibly detailed work, so I wish to diversify a bit and share a couple of videos he sent me last week.

Again, closing the box. You will note the slightly inclined back brace (remember it will be a 12 frets to the body / fanned arrangement). When I asked Tom about it, he first answered "I was drunk and slipped". British humor as its finest. I finally understood that it is about evening the stiffness of the back, but well, not half as funny.

And Tom sanding the sides. Just some really cool shots about the wood's grain and sapwood:

Thanks for following!

PS: tried to embed the video, but unsuccessfully..

Completely, bordering insanity. I remember Mark Knopfler calling guitar his "healthy obsession", no better words to describe how I feel.

Still a few weeks to go, so I need to temper my excitement as well as I can. At the same time, the building phase is quite enjoyable. Seeing the guitar shaping up and contributing (ever so slightly) to its creation is a great experience.

Now to the binding! We chose to go for a micro arm bevel. Nothing infringing on the real estate, but still a nice added comfort. And tbh I love the looks of Tom's ones.

Thanks!

That is going to be a STELLAR instrument! I love the rosette. Toms work with cooper is so cool!

I think healthy obsession is a great phrase for it. I'm waiting my first (and only) build next year and I get really excited just seeing other people's dreams coming to life. I reckon I could be unbearable for a while next year.

Agreed. It's really become his signature. He has other really cool color schemes depending on the wood aesthetics.

Wheee....

I am not sure how I missed this thread before, but I'm glad to be aboard now!
This seems to be coming along at a good clip, and it sure is pretty.

It's hard to believe that English is not your first language, as your English is better than many of my former band mates!!! Haha

This will be a sweetheart !

Have fun

Paul

Hi Tom,

Your guitar looks absolutely amazing. I absolutely love the woods you've chosen. They certainly remind me of my 2 Sands guitars. You're going to love your guitar. Sorry it took me so long to get AGF.

Congratulations!

;-)

Hey Bruce - Thanks for passing by! Your guitar and your kind guidance have been key in designing this instrument. Excited to see your M once finished, should not be too long now.

Cheers,

Bindings are done!

The micro bevel still will be to be installed next week or so, but now I am getting a solid idea of the finished box. And to spare you my usual ranting, it really exceeded my expectations.

Another video sent by Tom, it's capturing really well the quality of the work:

bevelin...!

Bevels are done. Just a tad of added comfort while not compromising ont he guitar's real estate - looks killer!

With the hint of sapwood...

Attachment 39913

And just a killer shot of the guitar's face. That rosette..

Attachment 39914

Again, apologizes for the relatively low quality of the pics.

Until the next installment.
Tom
