Finish cracks next to Fingerboard extension
I'm interested to know if finish cracks running parallel to the fretboard extension are a sign of the heel block shifting or if they can be just a humidity problem that's easy enough to take care of.
Here's a photo from a classified ad. Is this trouble?: [IM https://images.craigslist.org/00k0k_...8V_600x450.jpg https://images.craigslist.org/00U0U_...jp_600x450.jpg https://images.craigslist.org/00I0I_...Q3_600x450.jpg |
Please watch this one carefully for signs of the dreaded "fingerboard top crack."
Here's a worst-case scene: http://www.frets.com/FretsPages/Luth...topcrack02.jpg More about: http://www.frets.com/FretsPages/Luth...topcrack1.html http://www.frets.com/FretsPages/Luth...btopcrack.html |
Visual appearance of splits on the top adjacent to or from the fingerboard can be symptomatic of larger issues.
The most being, the neck block has failed and may require the back to be pulled to repair. Steve |
Thank you both and Mr.Ford, for those excellent articles. So much great info that covers most any question I'd I've.
Just to be clear, when I referred to the 'heel block' I was thinking neck heel and meant to say neck block. That for people who may search the problem and end up on this thread. |
