McKnight Guitars are coo-coo for Coco

We just started a new build for a client and thought we would share a few pictures. The back and sides are the most outrageous set of Cocobolo that we've ever built with to date. Its pretty much got it all ... quartersawn, wavy figure, sapwood, landscape, black ink lines and an odd wavy "skunk stripe" of lighter colored wood, which isn't sapwood, so I am not sure what to call it?

It will be paired with a Torrified Red Spruce top:

Stay tuned for more pics in the coming days and thanks for following along...

...

Tim - in wines it would be a varietal blend :D Looks like great combo!

Thanks John, I value your input!

Something about it reminds me of springbok or some other African antelope.

Really cool set Tim.

I can confirm that "skunk stripe" is the technical term.

Hi Erithon,

Here I'm "Spritzing" the sides with water before bending them. Since I'm a little coo-coo please confirm that "spritzing" is another technical term

Thanks David. Missed you at Woodstock. Hope to see you at another show soon.

Oh give me a home
where the buffalo roam
where the deer and the antelope play.

This reminds me that Adrianne and I saw bison the other day in our neck of the woods!

Confirmed! Lutherie has a long and noble tradition of spritzing, dating back to to the heyday of Markneukirchen. From the German spritzen ("to squirt or spray"), the English "spritz" is an essential step in side-bending--one practiced by apprentice and master alike :)

Hey Tim ... Deb and I almost went to Woodstock, just to hang with everyone and see Linda get her award. I haven't done shows in years ... I think the last one was one of the Montreal shows where we met. I'm booked solid, so it doesn't make much sense to display at shows any more. It'd be fun to hang out though!

that is so mighty fine coco. It's got the entire coco pallet and you are right about the spring bock

We would have enjoyed seeing you there. You could have sat with us at the dinner for Linda. It's good to be busy though!

And here I thought this thread was going to be about my favorite breakfast cereal ... KooKoo for Coco Puffs!

Really nice set of Cocobolo there Tim. Gonna be purdy!
