Monitor for solo acoustic with fishmanSA330
 

Picked up the 330 for solo gigs, love everything about it but i don't always have the option to position myself where I can adequately hear my voice or guitar as well as I'd like mainly because sometimes I have to play to the side or behind the speakers. Not looking for anything fancy or expensive preferably $200 or under, just want to clearly hear what I am putting out and I will go with either a floor wedge or pole mounted, bigger or compact, it just needs to be able to run right off of the 330. I'd like to keep my set up as simple as possible. thanks

I use a Kustom PA 50 for a monitor. It's under $100 and it works well for me.

The Kustom PA 50 happens to be on sale for $89 right now at Musician's Friend. I don't know anything about the unit, but looked it up after Mr Bojangles' recommendation.

I bought a Behringer B205D to use as a monitor together with my SA330X. Haven't gigged with it though, just used it at home. But it feels good, although the 5.25 inch speaker lacks bass, but that I did expect.

I have the Powerwerks version of this exact thing. I don't have the Fishman unit but I have been gigging with the Bose L1 systems for years.

I have found that with these line-array type systems, you don't need much in the way of monitors. Usually there is enough ambient sound coming from the system so that something to just clean up the details makes a big difference.

So while I probably wouldn't rely on a little spot monitor like this with a conventional system, these have worked for me with both the Bose units and a JBL Eon One.

I recommend an 8 inch powered speaker. Should be within budget.
My band has Behringer Eurolive B208D units that we use for monitors when needed.
They're small and light and they get the job done. The rear corner is angled so
you can lay one on it's side on the the floor with the speakers angled up towards you.

When you don't need a monitor the same speaker could be used as a side fill
in rooms where the SA330x spread doesn't cover everything/everyone.

Alto, Gemini, Kustom and probably others probably make competing units,
but I have no experience there.

Another thought, if you can handle something a little bigger is a used Yamaha
DBR10 speaker or similar. Plenty of folks gig with just those as their mains.
Point being don't overlook previously owned stuff.

I actually bought two of the Kustom 50's when they were on sale. I usually just use one as a monitor, but I have used the pair for a PA system at smaller venues.

+1 for the Behringer Eurolive B205D. I use one with an SA220 and it works very well unless I use a condenser mike, in which case it doesn't.

I use one of these with a pair of Shure in ear headphones. Works fantastic, less gear to haul and no feedback issues whatsoever. I think it has made me a better singer with less strain after a long night, but YMMV. Looks like you have two options - Mix DI out or Monitor out. All you need is a mic cord.

So many options out there. There are many great powered speakers, as well as small hotspot type monitors that can mount to a mic stand.

Personally, I'd get a powered 8" or 10" so that I could perform more than just monitor duty if need be. Also, I'd want to find something that sounded at least close to as good as the SA220.
