New Dehradun Build - Ziricote/Cedar
 

Just sent this one off to Josh in Arkansas. Josh is a worship leader there and had designed a scripture rosette for us to consider. I know it's not the craziest inlay ever, but I'm not the most experienced inlay guy so when I first saw it, I told him I wasn't sure we could pull it off. I showed it to my in-house artist, Amen Arjun, and he said he'd give it a try. I think he nailed it. Anyway, very happy with how this build turned out.

This is our Concert size (specs are on the website under the Guitars tab). We left the 13th fret hanging off the body to give him just a little extra access - he plans to capo this little one up quite a bit. The action is set pretty low for fingerstyle, just buttery, and it was pretty hard to finally put it down and pack it up.

Do you find that your source of wood is a little easier in a India compared to say the US?

Aw man, my first thread and I misspelled ziricote! Oh well.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. We work really hard on each one, and it's great to get some good feedback.

We do have a pretty good wood source here Matthew, but purchasing and shipping materials within India is much more difficult than it is in the US. We had to get so many registrations & certifications pushed through before they would allow us to ship anything so I would drive my van all over India, filling it up as I went.

The ziricote on this build came over from the US in my suitcase.

Woods that we've found locally so far include African wenge, two Indian rosewood species, mahogany (hard to tell what species), some beautiful acacia that looks just like koa, sapele and the reddest, most shimmery padauk I've ever seen. So far, we've shipped in all our soundboard stock from the US and Canada. Trying to convince the government to allow me to select harvest downed spruce and cedar in the Himalayas for soundboards, but no movement on that so far.

What an adventure! Sounds like "Tales from the Exlporers club." I can see you renting an old land rover with rusted gas cans attached to the spare tire, navigating dusty roads with cattle as traffic, searching for the best wood. I'd like Himalayan spruce, Sri Lankan rosewood, and a Bombay sapphire please :).
