New PRS electric strings
 

Has anyone tried the new PRS strings yet? I see they have Regular and Signature lines. I’ve used the old PRS strings even as recently as my last set and always like them a lot. I get them in 9.5 and the strings I just put on are D’Addarios 9.5. I’m normally all D’Addario but I think I like the PRS a tad better.

Hey Marley, I haven't tried any PRS electric strings. Just googled and it looks like they're new as of this summer - or is that just the signature series?

How's the price in comparison to D'Addario?

The "regular' one are Made by D'addario. I don't know anything about the new strings

I believe the old PRS strings and the two new ones are all made by D’Addario. I also believe both new strings, the Regulars and the Signatures both came out this summer. From what I see online the prices are about the same as the old PRS, which is about $7-8 vs $4-5 for the D’Addario’s

I tend to buy a lot of my strings on eBay. Good prices and they all seem to come from guitar stores. That’s where I buy all my PRS strings and my D’Addario 9.5 because most stores don’t carry them. I tend to buy my regular acoustic strings at local guitar stores as that always gives me an excuse to stop in.

Meh...I'm using Boomers on all my electrics, including my PRS. Not much interested in PRS marketing of 'branded' strings made for them by another company.

It's been a super long time since I've last tried a set of Boomers but I have no problem giving them a try. I've never heard bad things about them just all good.

I am a D'Addario guy and have been for the past 30+ years. There is something about them that I like and therefor it's probably no coincidence that I also like the PRS strings. I don't have a problem with D'Addario making their strings for them. I'm quite sure they sat down and Paul, with painstakingly detail, gave them all his thought and notes on guitar strings, and they started making strings how he wanted them. They only charge a dollar or two more so I have no problem, because I think I like them a dollar or two more. Plus, I'm probably a every 6 month string change guy on my electric. My fingers don't let off any gunk and my strings have always stayed good and clean for a long time.

Not exactly sure what you mean by marketing "branded strings". What do you mean?

But having them make strings for PRS is no different than Fender making EVH guitars or Buffalo Trace making Pappy Van Winkle or Blanton's bourbon. One shop can churn out vastly different products.

I used D'Addarios for a long time too, until I tried the Boomers one time when my local music store was out of my gauge. The Boomers sounded more aggressive, higher output to me by comparison so I stuck with them.

I don't have any problem with the D'Addarios, but not about to rush out and buy strings just because they're "PRS" brand D'Addarios.
