The music was fabulous as the singer strummed away his beautiful guitar. I pointed out to my friend that it was a guitar made by a world known luthier and that I would love to own a similar instrument one day. I had just lost my job and was fighting to keep things afloat so in the back of my mind, I thought that day would never come. Last year, I called up the luthier in question and after a long chat with him, realized that this would be my last chance of commissioning the guitar I had always dreamed of. I was always too impatient to even consider a custom build -- but this guitar will be very special to me. It will remind me of the great time I had in Toronto -- and also of the struggles I had to go through to start up my company. I've now confirmed the order and sent in the deposit. Cedar top with "The Tree" mahogany back and sides, full fretboard vine inlay... Delivery is scheduled for end of 2012. Of course, I will post details and pictures as they become available. |
You can't tell us all of that and not tell us the name of the builder!!!
Who is it? Jim Olson? |
Applegate? Hoffman? Brentup?
|
Are all of these builders from Minneapolis? That's an impressive list! ;)

Well Joe, who is it?
|
It's not Taylor BTO is it?~ :) j/k~
|
With a Canadian history and inlay could it be Grit Laskin?
|
Cool, you are getting an Estaban.

Aaah ... another guess the builder thread ...;)
Pity you've revealed the Tonewoods as we could have had a follow up thread on "Guess the Back and Side wood" , followed by "Guess the Soundboard wood". Although I haven't seen one yet, this forum is desperately in need of a "Guess the build start date" and "guess the delivery date" threads... :D:D:D Humour aside though... it's going to be a stunning build with "The Tree" - congrats! |
I, too, was too impatient at first for a custom but now I savor the process ... The longer the more enjoyment! And you will enjoy a guitar from The Tree!

Next on my list is a Petros. The man didn't threaten to retire so I figured he could wait another year or two... ;) |
I can’t wait to see some pictures! I love the Mahogany/Cedar combo and using The Tree will make it even better!
Congrats! |
Sounds like Applegate to me

Ah! Didn't realize you had already established this thread earlier in the year. Just found it. Wow, that's some amazing figure on that mahogany, as was expected. Looking forward to watching this develop.
