Which rosewood does this 74 Contreras have?
 

I just bought a used 74 Contreras classical guitar. The seller thought it was Brazilian rosewood then later he was told that it probably is Indian rosewood. Can anyone tell me which rosewood is the back and side made of? Guitar has not arrived my home yet.

My guess, Brazilian. Reasons: purplish tone inside, 1974 too early to be using the dramatic grain of more recent decades, and the outer grain - back and sides - is a bit dramatic for Indian.

That is Rio, almost certain. The golden sections say so.
And a very nice cut also, I tend to prefer the more regular cuts.

Looking into the purplish coloring, it's the IR that has that in deeper tones, the Brazilian displaying it in lighter tones. The yellow is a Brazilian trait.

It'll be easy enough to tell once the OP has the guitar in hand:
EIR smells musky, Brazilian smells like heavenly bubblegum.

The guitar has very strong sweet smell. Does it make it Brazilian?
