Taylor Zero Fret

Could be an illusion?

That said, I've never understood why people hate on the zero-fret. I know a lot of cheapo guitars had them in the past...but I have a zero on my gypsy jazz guitar, and it sure makes setup easy.

I have a zero fret archtop and ditto. Here is what will be touted: sound of open strings exactly the same as fretted. Friction of string for tuning substantially reduced.

I had an old Yairi (5065, maybe?) with a zero fret. First time I had ever seen one.

I liked it.

And interestingly, I think the open strings STILL sound like open strings, but it's not as drastic of a difference in volume, tone and sustain. Which I like. Others may not, I suppose.

Just got a zero fret myself--on a 70s encore kids guitar!

I do not see a zero fret in that picture. That's just the black nut found on all new Taylor V-class guitars.

The picture is bad quality.. could be the white nut and artificating in the picture makes the edge of the truss rod cover fool our eye into thinking there is a black nut + 0 fret there.

There is clearly something white/silver there.. either a zero fret + black nut or a standard white nut.

What's with the blacked out guitar body?

looking at the angle the D and G strings leave the nut, I doubt there's a zero fret there.

have always liked zero frets, they sort of got unjustifiably frowned upon with their association with cheap guitars back in the 70's

Well, that's a V-class Taylor because it has the headstock logo. All V-class Taylor's have a black nut. I could be wrong but I do not see anything in front of the nut. Said in another way, there is nothing between the first fret and the nut. Therefore no zero fret...

There is some kind of blurry gleam under the G and B strings behind the nut and before the truss rod cover which one could conjecture is just light reflection or digital artifacts due to the low resolution.

Here is a clear shot of Andy at last year's NAMM show. I think what is seen in the bad photo is a reflection just below the nut. But, anything's possible.

Yes. What people are imagining as the "zero fret" in the original picture IS the black nut.
