Diagnosing a slight buzz
 

I could use some help on figuring out a very slight twang or harshness or buzz.

The high E, plucked open, has a bit of edgy harshness to it- sort of a brashness- it does not exhibit this when fretted.

Same with the G, has just the tiniest hint of buzz, played open-not when fretted.

Although it looks like there is enough clearance at the nut, my guess is the nut notches are cut too low.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe the break angle over the nut is not right, IE, the string is not breaking over the nut at the edge of the nut, but back a 1/16" or something like that.

Anything else I should look for?

Those 2 nut slots probably need to be filed in with bone dust and refiled so that the strings sit properly in them.

Buzzing issues like this often show up in drier winter air, and I agree with taking care that the string exits the nut properly.

What shape are your frets in ?

Fret each string at 3rd fret so the string is stretched between the 2nd fret and the nut. The string should just barely clear the 1st fret. If it's actually touching the 1st fret, the nut slot is too deep.

If the nut slot angle is so flat that it has the string resting only at the back of the nut slot (closer to the headstock) it can cause a buzz in the front of the slot.

Here's something to look at. Check where the ball winding of the string is. Is it touching the bridge? If so the next time you change stings cut off the ball of the old string and slide it down the string so that the added space keeps the winding from touching the bridge.
