G & L Tribute ASAT Classic (SDOTD) specs question
 

I am thinking of getting the Musician's Friend Stupid Deal Of The Day:

I would only be fingerpicking on it with bare fingers (don't even own a pick or thumbpick), so I'm wondering, does anyone knows what the string spacing for the picking hand is like?

I currently play a The Loar LO-16 acoustic, and it is generous at 2 5/16 spacing at the bridge, so I know any electric is going to be way tighter than that, but I think I might get this G & L as long as it's not tighter than the average electric in that regard.

I have been searching for a while for a new or used electric with above average string spacing, and eventually relalised that I will have to adjust my playing style to get my fingers in there.

I can't help with the string spacing but that deal caught my eye too. Looks like a good deal. Good luck!

I have one sitting right here and just tried it. It's very workable. I think the difference is that the fretboard of the G and L is heavily radiused. This gives the perception of greater string spacing.

The string spacing at the nut as compared with my Bourgeois 00 Country Boy is narrower and at the bridge about the same. Again, my fingers percieve a greater spacing because of the radius.

One thing about fingerstyle on an electric is the amount of 'pluck' you use. Electrics require a lot of palm and string muting to sound good. And generally the action is low and so vigorous picking can cause buzz.

The G and L is a solid performer and a great value. The SDOTD price is spot on.

I have a G&L Bluesboy - it's essentially the same guitar only with a HB at the neck. It's my go-to gigging guitar and very high quality.

The deal is a good one, just be aware that they often pop up for $299 - this same model did about 2 weeks ago and almost bit myself, but feel like my BB gives me all the tonal variation I need.

They are a huge step above the average import, including the p-ups. Have no fear, unless you get a dud, at 299 or 349 they are a heckofa deal.

Or, I should say, I got the Bluesboy for $299, so even cheaper than the original deal, and I like that one more. I guess they ran out of ASAT Classics and substituted the Bluesboy, so I got a better deal (total cost-wise), and the guitar that I preferred, although I would have still gotten the ASAT Classic.

You'll be a happy camper! Fat, warm and articulate HB tones, Strat like tones in middle position and still the ability to use Tele twang at the bridge. I love mine and hope you will too!
