1989 Schoenberg Soloist
I purchased this guitar new in 1990, serial number dates to 1989. I believe it was one of the second batch of guitars that was built using the Martin factory. The woods were selected by Eric Schoenberg and the top was voiced by Dana Bourgeois. The label is signed by both of these fellows.
The partnership between Schoenberg and Martin was one of the things that convinced Martin to start building OM guitars again The original case has been replaced by the deluxe case used by Bourgeois. The guitar has recently been setup by Randy Hughes of Asheville, NC. It has a K&K pure western mini installed. The Soloist guitars originally had an engraved plaque installed in them. Mine came unglued and was put away in a drawer. Unfortunately it was lost in a move. The guitar has Brazilian back and sides, with bearclaw top. The frets show very little wear. The guitar plays and sounds great. Price is $6500. paypal is fine, actual shipping costs. Might consider a trade with substantial cash coming my way. http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...pshiqfgqd8.jpg http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...pstnnupmu4.jpg http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...pseqxhrfwd.jpg http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse0zhdtza.jpg http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...psc6xkfhjz.jpg http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...pssjetsn2o.jpg http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...psn4snxpjw.jpg http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...psemvwtxzy.jpg |

bump, this is a great guitar but.... I just spoke with John Slobod about another guitar he is starting for me. I don't have to sell this one but I don't play it a lot so it should go to a good home.

That's a nice set of Brazilian
|
In response to a question. The string spacing at the bridge is 2 7/16" and the width at the nut is 1 3/4".

I pulled out my Karol harp guitar (which is also listed for sale) yesterday and I'm thinking I am going to keep it, so I'm a little more motivated on selling the Schoenberg. Don't be afraid to make an offer. The worst thing I will say is no thanks.
This is a great guitar that needs a new home. |
That receipt...
So, forgive an ignorant question- was this guitar really 2,200 back in the day? I mean... holy smokes! Maybe buying Google or Apple's ipo would have been a better investment, but come on now, what a steal! Beautiful guitar...

" As I recall I think the asking price was a little higher but $2200 was the price we agreed on. At that point, that was the most money I had ever spent on a guitar. |
Lovely guitar. Those early Soloists were made from some incredible old growth Brazilian RW from a stump recovered from the rain forest.
I had one from the first batch they did. Eric used it and an OM-28 prototype I owned back then in the print ads. Good luck with the sale. I'm thinking of selling mine and hope you get your asking price. |
Time will tell, I consulted a couple of dealers about the price and that was the concensus. Open to offers in that ballpark. A really nice crossover nylon string and cash would be interesting also.
