I think we are going to be OK. Played the Olson and the Goodall for many hours today and messed with my David amp and got it dialed in for the first time.

It will be rosewood, that's all I can say for now.

For those who might be interested, Jim will also build the final James Taylor signature models in Indian rosewood. I despise signature models but might make an exception this time... ;)

I can't remember the exact number of remaining James Taylor signature models that Jim is supposed to build -- but it's a modest figure.

I also noticed that these get snapped pretty quickly on the used market. Not that I would want to sell it but it is a good sign for long term value.

As for the 2013 build, I got some good news at work this week so I'm in for a "modest" Olson for sure. We'll see if I get tempted by BRW but otherwise I'd love to have a "beater" Olson in my stable with his traditional rosewood/cedar combo.

Joe, that is one beautiful guitar. Have you recorded with it yet?

Perhaps you should consider Madagascar RW for your next Olson, I dont recollect having seen any Mad RW Olsons anywhere, it's as good as BRW I am told.

Jim does not build with MRW. Besides, his premium for BRW is rather reasonably priced.

As far as I'm concerned, Indian rosewood is just as good as any rosewood. My preference for BRW isn't based on sonic preference -- but rather driven by looks and prestige.

People are free to say and think otherwise. There is no "better sounding" rosewood in my book and I cringe every time I read something in those lines.

Looking forward to hearing about your visit next month. Do you have a specific date set to visit?

I never thought I'd be saying this (though I should have known better!), but I'm really considering commissioning another Olson--spruce over rosewood for sure (probably no cutaway)...but it likely won't be soon due to the recent Charis and Contreras (classical) financial "dents" :) (but no regrets--they are superb guitars and keepers for sure!). Hope he's still building when/if the time comes.
