Build Thread : Fairbanks FSJ Kalamazoo Gals 13 Fret

I’m having a Fairbanks FSJ Kalamazoo Gals 13 fret built.. As some of you know Justonwo has started a similar build thread.. Juston got me started with a tip on getting in on one of Catfish Keith’s builds and we ended up with both of our builds going on at the same time.. Dale was slow with getting me some photos at first, but then I changed some things which delayed my build a little.. I started out with just his standard build of the Kalamazoo Gal. Then I added the 13 fret custom option.. I then updated it to a relic level 1, or as Dale calls it, a closet Queen. At the last moment I inquired if it was to late to get a torrefied Adi top. Dale said that would be no problem. He had already started on my top with the rosette but said he would just use that for another.. So there you have it. A Fairbanks FSJ Kalamazoo Gals 13 fret with torrefied Adi top and a relic level 1 Closet Queen.. This is exciting...

Here are some photos.

Right now they are almost identical to Justonwo’sAttachment 15360Attachment 15361Attachment 15362Attachment 15363Attachment 15364Attachment 15365Attachment 15366Attachment 15367Attachment 15368Attachment 15369Attachment 15370Attachment 15371Attachment 15372Attachment 15373Attachment 15374Attachment 15375Attachment 15376Attachment 15377Attachment 15378Attachment 15379

Same thoughts from down-under!
Would be great fun to play them both on completion, and see how the different tops and necks impact on the sound.

I suspect that I can arrange this.

Did your top go to Florida for spring break?

Yea. She’s looking mighty baked.

Thanks for the update. Cool pic!

No need to torrify the bridgeplate: it's made of maple that left the Gibson factory during WWII.

Both these Gals are headed for the S.F. Bay Area..

JT : Both Juston and I are hoping we can meet up with you when you make your way out west.. You of course can play mine before it comes out hear if you can arrange it....

Let's do this! So cool.

Current tentative plan is that I'll be in the Bay area from February 17-24, 2019. Will that work?

Again, so cool.

I will be around. We should definitely be able to meet up! I'm not sure when Dale is delivering, but I'd like to put 10-20 hours of playing time into the thing before comparing it to the original. They always change so much in that timeframe.

What would be cool for all of us is if you would both bring the reproductions and meet up with John Thomas at B.I.G. with the 1943 went to war and back Gibson so we could all hear them and compare!!!!!

Help out the guitar community fellas in addition to the 3 of you getting together!!! What say you???
